Hi, my name is Abby from Philippines, 22 years old. Been looking for my father since 2019 and I even sought help from our local group here in my city since they help japanese children, but they can't help me since they need my mother's statement and my mother is not willing to do it since their separation is bad. His full name is Joji Akimoto from 1-388, Waki, Waki cho, Kuga gun, Yamaguchi Prefecture, born on February 1, 1950. I have a copy of their divorce certificate and listed on my old birth certificate he was an enginner. My grandmother said he wants to take me back to Japan but my mom refused and eventually lost contact with my grandmother.

I hope you can help me find him.

Welcome to the forum! Do you know what company he worked for?

What's the exact address? 1-388 or 1-3-88? Do you have a zip code?

Have you tried to send him a letter to that address?

Hi, it's actually 1-488 I double checked it, and no I don't have his work address, I believe he quit his job since he lived with us here in Ph for months. I didn't think of sending him a message, will sure try that.

Also, in the divorce certificate, his parent's names are here and was even signed by the head of Waki cho, Kuga gun, his name is Hiroyuki Takano. Do you think there are ways to reach them?

If so, I recommend you send a postal letter to his last known address. If it's no longer correct, Japan Post will do their best to deliver it. If it's returned to you, you know he no longer resides there.

It broke down at the final part 488, but here is the best I could narrow it down to,

Looks like the common kanji for Akimoto = 秋本. Not 100% sure for Joji but I think it may be: 譲二

I think the address is 山口県岩国市楠町1丁目6-27 (1-6-27 Kusunokimachi*, Iwakuni-shi, Yamaguchi-ken)
which leads here.

*It looks like they wrote Kusunokicho on the form but the correct name appears to be Kusunokimachi, at least these days. Either pronunciation is possible for the kanji.

Thank you so much! I don't think he still lives there, but I will try writing a letter to that address

Hi, I just wanted to update you guys that I finally found my father's whereabouts. Thanks to everyone's help. Although he's no longer here, I think it finally gave me the closure I needed after all these years of looking for him. Thank you so much!
