What are some grammar problems that should be avoided in Japanese?

Are there syntax rules that are taught in a similar way for Japanese as with English (at least here in the US)? For example, how in English we always capitalize the first letter of a sentence, names, and so on. We're taught not to use "and" too many times repetitively in the same sentence, or even to not start a sentence with "and". Also, the quotation marks I just used have several rules to them as well. Even just confusing sentence patterns that make it hard to parse a sentence, because that definitely happens a lot in English. Even using too many instances of "that" and "to" can get extremely confusing and hard to read when too close to each other. So I'd like to know if there's stuff like this which differs in Japanese? Anything helps, even if it's something you feel doesn't matter. I want to know all that I can about it. Up until now I've only gotten the impression that there must be a lot more of these types of rules in English than in Japanese, but if there's anything, I wanna find it and learn to master it.

and finally memorize the contents of this and that should be pretty much sufficient. At least for modern Japanese.
