Yaho!

We all know that a teppan is a very expensive grill for restaurants. pricings starting at 1.000€ up to probably more than 10.000€
but there are also teppan for personal use. the concept of a teppan is actually very simple. it's basically just a steel plate or maybe cast iron or whatever which is heated. can't be that difficult huh? wrong.
the teppan i'm looking for should:

1. not be non stick
2. should reach a high temperature (250°C minimum, ideally 300°C)
3. should not have any barrier arround it that prevents splashes
4. have a flat surface without any relief
5. should be priced below 200€

also it should be possible to ship it to germany.

i really hope that you guys can help me... and i bid my thanks to all of you who're trying to help me :)

i wonder if i got the wrong terminology...
the teppan you showed me is just the plate without any heating element. i actually wanted to buy a teppan with heating element that goes to minimum 250°C

but the link to the japanese shop might be helpful. i'll see if i can find something there. and how much a oversee shipping will cost.

but please continue :) if you know other japanese shops that ship overseas (germany) that are worth looking into or specific item from those shops, please share them with me :) of course also european online-shops or whatever...

i'd be rather interested on how to buy them except by flying to japan :P
however please keep the list of neccessary properties in mind.
the once i saw in the video are all non-stick. non stick is very fragile and not the type you use for a proper teppanyaki
reason is simple. the contact to the heat is reduced and non-stick is fragile against metal cooking utensils. and you probably already know but for teppanyaki you do use metal utensils to scrape of the noodles, meat, okonomiyaki, ...
even when using non-metal gears the non-stick is bound to be scratched at some point and then you have to buy a new one.

but still thanks for your effort :)

just to sum this up, this is the one i stuck with in the end
Amazon product ASIN B0828376QB
what's annoying me about this are the splash shields on the side, making it hard to sit around a table and grab your food
but at least it satisfies all the other criteria. 300°C, cast iron top, flat surface, relatively cheap.

maybe i'll just take a steel cutter and cut off the sides or so. it can be helpful sometimes but if using it as a yakiniku grill it's annoying...

i wish the world could just bring the proper thing. how hard can it be to put a big iron plate on a heat source?

Thanks for reporting back. I think these "real" grills are not so common in Japan. Most people use non-stick at home.
If they want to eat okonomiyaki etc on a real teppan they'll just go to a restaurant.

i'ld love to do that but first, i'm not vaccinated, second in my whole area there are, if any, very few japanese restaurants. and even fewer that actually have the right to call themselves "japanese restaurant". you know, not every store that sells sushi can be considered a "japanese restaurant" actually i've never seen a teppan in any restaurant in my country i was so far... east germany... not even in bavaria.

so i'm following the motto: "if you can't get it, make it"
i know people love non stick but if you're serious about cooking, then you can throw them away in most cases.
