The dark side of playing computer games?

Downsides? Well my personal viewpoint is a significant amount of wasted time. The games require your full attention, you could have used that time to say learn Japanese or well for anything else. Mind you that is not so different from say reading fiction books "too much" which also requires your attention and other than exercising some basic literacy gains one little other than relaxation and entertainment. One thing I can say about TV or music or podcasts or something is that is often in the background while you do something else. Humans do need entertainment and relaxation of some sort so a lot hovers around how one defines "too much". What is thought of as too much can vary by the individual. How much is "too much" reading comic books? At the end of your life will you think geez I wish I had played more games?

Very few people use most of their time (thus life energy) for productive activities. Or maybe I'm just saying that to make myself feel better, assuming everybody else is in the same boat I am. But I agree if you can get into the habit of spending more time on productive activities you will feel better about yourself and have fewer regrets.

There's no reason that playing games can't be a "productive" activity in terms of stimulating your imagination (like watching a movie or reading a book), or communicating/cooperating/competing with others (if it's an online game, for example). The idea that "computer games" = "unproductive/bad/lazy" is kind of old-fashioned I think.

That said, of course there are downsides if you spend all (or a disproportionate amount of) your time playing games instead of getting physical exercise, interacting with other people in real-life, building skills and knowledge, etc. etc.

Everything in moderation.
