Hello all! My name's Dakota I'm new to the forum but a long term collector of militaria. I've read through some posts and noticed many knowledgeable people here. Got my first imperial flag yesterday, and wanted to see what you all could deduce from it? I've done a fair bit of research on my own but being new I'd like all the opinions I could get. This flag is small, measuring out to be 10x13". Made of cotton. What I've noticed is some inconsistencies in the stitching, and around the edges of the meatball. It smells old. I did a black light test and didn't see anything concerning to me. I have this posted in another forum, and others have mentioned the kanji inscribed by the tie strings appear to be a woman's name. The staining has various depth, density, and color. What I'm curious on is if this flag could be period era correct? The small size concerns me as I've only found a couple examples of them being small like this, could it have been a gift from a wife or mother to their son to bring into battle? Is it more likely this would have been a civilian patriotic flag kept in country? I'm a history buff and love to learn, I appreciate all the input and opinions given to educate me
