I have recently come across a WWII Yosegaki image and was hoping to have it translated. I do not have possession of the flag but through email, I am in touch with the person who does. Would somebody be able to translate this for me? If it is not facing the correct direction, that would be a helpful start for me. Please excuse my ignorance on this.

Its just two differently oriented images of the character 池 (ike - lake).
In this case its probably a stamp of someone's last name
池田 Ikeda
池上 Ikegami
池川 Ikegawa
etc.

Thank you so much for your timely response. I really appreciate your help. Would the changing of the orientation be significant in any way?

None at all. The characters and their potential meaning remain unchanged.
