Would you rather live in America or Japan?

i would choose japan
cause i am dreaming of living there
it's like so nice^^
 
i must say I prefer to live in japan. Believe it or not, there are less racism, and discriminations in japan.
 
I'm in Japan now, have been for 4 yrs. Will probably stay 3-4 more, but even then I think I'll go somewhere other than back to the US.
 
I haven't been to Japan for a long time, but the time I was there I loved it. I wish I could live there for a few more years and then make my decision. But I'd be really happy if I could live in the inaka no matter what.
 
Japan is okay, but USA, USA! Or better yet, Europe (oh sorry, you didn't givre us many choices, maybe better would have been 'Would you prefer Japan or your home country ( as some of the posters have lived in neither the US or Japan).
 
Japan definately! It's way more secure and has more to offer than the US.
 
I'd love to live in Japan, even if it would be for a short while...
I don't have any inclination towards U.S.A. It's not among my choices...but who knows where life will take me...
 
I'd like to live in Japan, the states were nice and I'm moving to south africa this year.
So I can't really choose,but visiting japan for a good month or so in company of someone I know would make me pretty happy ^^.
 
I love America's ideal of individualism,and it's a continental nation with more open space.

I take interest in foreign cultures,can always visit other places on vacation without actually living there.
 
I like the life in Japan, really enjoy it!
As for the US, I've never been there personally, and know couple of nice Americans too, but from what I hear from a person who is especially important for me ( let's say I love him),who lives there, I think US is not the dream country shown on the TV and the movies.
I feel hurt every time I hear he has been harrased or something bad has happened to him and nobody helped him.
I think yes, Japan is better than the US.
 
I personally I am not from united states, but one thing I really love in USA is their people way to make communication. They make it so easy, and that is very uncommon where I come from.

I like Japan though, compared to united states they stand out with originality of buildings and beatiful temples and mountine areas.

I choose may home still.. home is home, europe

Acording to PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) in 2003 Japan was doing way better than US. Regadless of such result, that doesn't mean your child couldn't get a good education in US, anyway.
 
I'd like to see how they rank the students on;

Scientific Literacy

Reading Literacy

Mathematical Literacy

Though I wonder how they rank some Japanese students now as some don't study science anymore (or history, except for whitewashed versions)! As to mathematics, I noticed that Chinese and Japanese students understanding of math while good as far as earlier exposure to some elements of higher mathemeatics, the depth of their understanding was/is not so good. I used to tutor students in math and found they hadn't learned some additional techniques I had learned years earlier. They usually only knew 1 or 2 ways of solving many problems, hence they learned a lot earlier but the depth of knowledge seemed to be minimal.

Being quick to solve something does not always indicate you are the best at doing that or the best at understanding that. Knowledge acquisition is measured in different ways, the PISA is only one way of measuring it.

Not sure if i count considering im neither american or japanese but without even travelling to america ill say Japan all day...and week... ^-^

Parents say strange things....my mom thinks I am going to be kidnapped in Japan! I have no idea where she got that notion. Maybe she watched some tv show that gaige's father saw...or some news report.

Anyway, I love Japan, but it's not home. I could live in Japan for a while but I know in my heart I would be sad after a while. I have a big possibility of having to live in Japan, but I know that I would at least be able to go home a couple times a year. My husband does that now. We live in the US but come back to Japan every few months for his job.

Its true! I've seen it done all the time, I once saw it happen at a Royal Host restaurant in front of the drink bar!
 
It's funny that the majority of people who say they'd rather live in Japan are either Japanese citizens or non-Japanese living in other countries. For the latter group, trust me, after you've lived here for about a year (tops) you'll be contemplating your return back home. It's not that Japan is a bad place or anything, it's just that it never quite lives up to the fanboy's dream, and, of course, "There's no place like home."

I think Japan is a nice place to visit occasionally, but even though I live here now I will definitely return home within a few years.
 
I'd say the US. Japan is more of a vacation place. Just that fact that it's an entirely different culture with ideals and philosophies that, in some cases, are the exact opposite of the 'west'. It would be to hard to settle down and make a life when your basically a fish out of water
 
If I knew the language I would choose Japan. From my experiences there, it is such a wonderful place. Believe it or not, I like the crowded feeling of the city and streets. Even though I would have to leave family and friends, I have family there and my heart is in Japan and you have to follow your heart. Hopefully, I will get a degree in Physics and teach at a university in Japan. As for an ideal life, it would be to be a physicist, get married, have kids, and learn animation dancing!!! Nothing too fancy.

It's always interesting to hear different point of views.

Maybe it's because I grew up in a small town, being in the streets of Tokyo with full of people is one of the reasons I would choose to live in America.
