Why Other Countries Hate Japan

Japanese don't hate rather " despise " Chinese for being weaklings lost their core values and prominent role in the region since 1840's.

Sadly though,Japan never could instrumentally replaced China on peaceful terms as the " big brother " to other yellow folks can proudly emulate like how China once was to nearby Asian kingdoms.

Well gaijin, I am sorry for my poor english.
No, your English was fine; it was just a joke.
Don't worry:我看了懂你想說甚麼...我為甚麼寫了that joke因為如果日文的話, "Sake"是"酒"的Ro-maji.
Just a joke.

Oh, i see. You are humorous. And your chinese is quite good.

Godppgo, I kinda agree with you to the extent that war is simply an inevitable part of human's history. But I do find your overall views on wars and human evolution very much disturbing.

It's funny and eerie at the same time to discuss "human development" at the cost of vast number of human lives. Without the least regard and respect for human life, whose development are we talking about here?

A dead man cannot pursue a higher standard of living, can he?

Social Darwinism is a very destructive thing with long-lasting effects when applied as a political philosophy. When Europeans colonized, then later exited Africa and parts of Asian, they probably didn't expect the effects to be reverberating a century later. In recent memory, Europeans have been perplexed by the heated and wide-spread Muslim reaction to a few cartoons. What they don't appreciate is that, what they see as harmless cartoons, are seen from the Arab eyes as the condescending attitude from former colonizers.
When Japan set out on its empirial journey, many of Japan's sons had exactly the same romantic ideology of elevated human development as you do today, Godppgo. I don't honestly believe they started their conquest with murderous intentions. THe emperial army's sacred and grand mission was to elevate Asia from its darkness to the enlightened "higher standard of living"....

What happened later is history.

Enough Godppgo bashing, hehe.

My 2 cents on why there is a perceived hatret toward the state of Japan among some Asian countries, specifically, China and Korea:

From where I sit, the underlying reason may have little to do with what Japan did in WWII, but everything to do with the current geopolitical reality.

Godppgo, here you brought up a good point that every nation should define itself by what it want to be. Put on my idealist hat and I totally agree with you. But the recent surge of Chinese & Korean nationalism is not about China and Korea's national identities, but about Japan's national identity and the role Japan should play in Asia.

There are a few reasons that I can think of why from a geopolitical perspective it makes sense for China to keep pressing Japan on the WWII/Shrine issue.

1. For political capital in the battle over western pacific waters/islands and the underlying resources.
2. The tightening strategic alliance between Japan and US worries China.
3. Prevent Japan from becoming a UNSEC permanent member, which in turn is a function of the above two reasons.
4. Genuine distrust of the Japanese nation rooted in the atrocities committed by the Japanese army in WWII.

As demonstrated by the amicable Sino-Japan relationship in the 70's and 80's,
China and Japan can reconcile over the history issues and have rather successfully done so in the past. For the two countries to re-gain the friendly relationship, leaders of both countries need to show their political wisdom and courage.

PM Koizumi and whoever becomes his successor, need to realize that while paying homage to a nation's lost sons in wars is perfectly normal, worshipping war criminals is a totally different issue. Japan has squandered quite a lot of political capital over this stupidity and it's time to re-define Japan as a nation capable of differentiating normal nationalism from historial obliviousness.

Also, present and future leaders of Japan need to re-calculate its strategic position with regard to China. At the end of the day, neither country wants to wage a war for the gas and oil under the pacific water. A tough stance does not get the problem solved. If Japan truly is the self-proclaimed civilized model of Asia then it needs to be capable of resolving issues through negotiations and discussions instead of purchasing weapons.

China is going steadily toward the direction of a regional and global power. It has also been engaging in strategic talks with the US to further mutual understanding. In light of these advancements Japan's position toward China in the recent years seems not only stubborn, but also to its own detriment.

I am about 2.3 miles away from the topic here but here is the point: if we work out the practical issues between us, I am absolutely optimistic about the future of the Sino-Japan relationship.

This region has some of the most splendid cultures, some of the most advanced technologies, some of the most vibrant economies, and mostly importantly, some of the most smart and industrious people this planet has ever seen, we should be capable of more than hate and distrust in the historical mud.

InkInk, it sucks, but, one cannot deny that war seems the most motivating drive for progress, technologically and eventually socially.

Yes people die who cannot then enjoy the new found progress, but, same can be said in peace-time, some of us no doubt have had grandparents who died before they could enjoy the infomation technology age at its bloom.

Hopefully though we seem to be moving towards a state of mind where progress, technologically socially and enviromentally and economically, we dont need war so much.

Bussiness runs things now.

Hopefully bussiness wont decide war is profittable after all, but for most, it isnt.

As Dane I followed the "cartoon crisis" closely. I was very concerned in the first place when a right-wing newspaper in Denmark made the provocation of bringing the cartoons in the name of freedom of speach. I have lived in muslim countries and had muslim colleges in the past, so I knew how offensive these immages would be. Anyway the crisis escalated because our PM did not show leadership by expressing regret over these cartoons, rather he kept on saying: "In Denmark we have freedom of speach". Gradually during several months some people in the muslim communities escalated a campaign against Denmark. This campaign was finally escalating to hatred against a small virtually unknown country, with burning of embassies etc. The authorities in countries like Syria and Iran did nothing to protect the emabssies. This is most likely because these are a lot of frustration among the population in these undemocratic countries. People are not allowed to protest the governments, but every now and the people are allowed to went their anger and frustrations against "outside enemies".

The recent attacks of the embassies with passive policemen as onlookers were very similar to what we saw a few years ago when a chinese croud attacked the Japanese Embassy. It seem to be a patern in undemocratic countries where there are no freedom of speach.

If anyone tries to demonstrate for human rights or the rights of the tibetans, they end up in jail in no time, but if the choose to attack the Emabssy of Japan - nothing happens!

So to the question: Why some chinese hate Japan? Because there is no real freedom of speach and respect of human rights in China. And they choose to believe that the japanese who show disrespect towards China and the feelings of chinese actually repressent Japan! They do not - we are talking about a small group of nationalistic right-wingers, who seek provocation.

Actually, the only thing i ever heard bad about japan is the food... But i hear that about all the asian countries. Oh, that and the one who thought of attacking perle harbor was an idiot. If that wouldn't have happened, the US might have never joined the war. Just because it was leaning more supplies to the allies dosn't mean it was planning on using armed forces.

It was oil, and Japan is very VERY poorly blessed with natural resources, especially the kind one can extract from the earth.

Japan went to war because it felt it had no other choice.

Though thinking about it, I wonder why they didnt bother exploration in already occupied territories.

And it was a damn stroke of luck the American carriers were out of harbour durring the attack, damn lucky...

Indeed. But actually, if japan didn't bomb the harbor, they probably would have gotten their resources and such without any trouble. From what i understand, they guessed that the US was going to join the war, and made an attack based on it, which was what brought the US into the war. Otherwise, we might all be speaking german, japanese, and itallian right now. Cause if europe worked together, it would likely have been able to take over the US at that time if it just waited long enough to repopulate. But that topic is for another post, and another time.

(1)There are many million surviving Chinese families were VICTIMIZED by Japanese Imperial Army have " residual " hatred toward Japan with resentment direct or indirect at Japanese people.Don't ignorantly equate " no freedom of speech or blind nationalism " to all round Japan-hating,there are many anti-Communist Chinese held grudges against Japan for mass destructions caused by the war with Japan and great harms inflicted on Chinese civilian population.

(2)This scenerio only applies to right-wing ultra-conversative Japanese constantly rehash old WW2 wounds by despicably denied of many attrocities committed by cruel and savage Japanese Imperial Army.

Come-uppance is the word typically use among Asian nationalities in regard to A-bombs dropped on Japan's Nagasaki and Hiroshima, only killed 250,000 versus 20-30 million yellow folks Japanese Imperial Army consciously slaughtered with no baggage of guilt.

Aye... Japan should have never entered the war. I bet you, though, that if the axis won and 3 countries were in control of the world, i bet Germany would have attacked Japan before Italy. From what i understand, germany brought japan in taking advantage of a cultural opinion japan had at the time. Japan, nor the US, should have been in WWII. The good thing about it though, is that Germany dosn't own half the planet.

Nazi " mastermind " Karl Haushoffer peddled the concept of " Japan alliance " to Hess and Hitler in the 1930's,whereas he perceived some superficial similiarities between two cultures.

Well, for some reson, during the war, the japanese soldiers beleived that japan was better than everyone else, or so it was documented. It was probably an opinion that no one cared about, but when some one started it up, it fueled people to beleive it more and join the war. (I'm a poet and don't know it.)

Really ! ..... words of self-professed warmonger ?

Seemingly, many of your posts @ Jref tried to justify or glorify Japan's atrocities 1910-1945.For a German descent like yourself born and bred in Britain, must've burdened with Nazi-baggage on your back therefore you can relate to Japanese' pain of WW 2 sins.

Brits still do hate Germans for WW 2.

And it's funny, considering the Germans hate themselves for WW2. lol

窶啾窶噎ツ the way ツ、what are other countris ?

窶愿?但ツ?ツ?ツ?

"other" means "not this (one)". For instance, "Japan and china have cute citizens, while other countires have ugly ones." (I know that is a wrong statment, but it's what i came up with off the top of my head.) The "other countries" in that statement would mean "any country that is not Japan or China." "Other" is usually a referance to anything(s) that are not part of the topic of this sentance or the last sentance.

????.
Usa is included in them
how about german?

What are you referring to?

Ok.. um... i'll give you another example...

"Apples and oranges are good fruits, but the others i don't want to talk about right now."

"the others" in that sentance represents any fruit that is not an apple or an orange.

..... that poster's English illiteracy re-enforces the notion he can only present propaganda ( distorted ) materials, indeed can't debate issues at common knowledge level.
