Quite interesting..

I was home last month and as usual I go to the monumental cemetery of Rome to take flowers to my parents and other relatives, I got out so upset because no one brought flowers, no my sister or brother and other living relatives, I was the only one in the whole year, and I am the one who life abroad. Anyway I think gestures such as flower means more to the living people.

I think rational people even in the olden times never believed in such visits, waitings and hungry, angry ghosts.
Maybe 3,500 yrs ago they did, as they took the ancestral rites seriously.
I think back than, parents had the power to kill their children.
Out of fear comes "serious" respect, in order not to get killed by parents. It's good that now we have something called "enlightened parents" who refrain from murderous thoughts of their children, although there might be exceptions.

Life is precious, but we only realise that when it is challenged. With the protection, it appears less important. Some people did an experiment with gold fish; they stuck in a predator in the fish tank to see how they coped. Under threat, the goldies thrived, although one or two got eaten by the predator. But with the threat removed, quite a few gold fishies got lazy, uninterested in life, and committed suiced by drowning themselve in the water they breathe.

Enough nonsense from me. No !!! The spirits do not wait for us on a special day. With the old superstitions removed, I might also say that the special day for the dead is in our minds. I sometimes missed my grandfather. He appeared a couple of times in my dream. It's all very dim; but I think he would feel happy that he was being missed, loved by one of his offspring.

Thanks Lexico. That's what I also believe...but wouldn't that belief just help us to feel less guilty? Who knows. My wife said me that Japanese people deeply believe in dead people visiting them during special days (the days when they have to light up some candles outside the house, to lead the dead people spirits to the right house), so why wouldn't western dead people wait for the livings to visit them on particular days? We'll never know for sure I think...

In the UK it's actually yesterday (November 2) that is "all souls day", the day when people traditionally remember those who have died.

I feel kind of bad because I didn't go to the cemetary any time around then... I should have gone to tidy my grandparents' grave. 2 of their sons live nearby and they only go there at Christmas. I like to keep it to look nice, not because I think it matters to dead people but because it matters to the living, it shows that you have some respect and good memories for the people.

I should have gone to my dad's grave too, but I don't mind about that because I know my mom keeps it nice; besides it is his birthday soon so I will go then.

(well, to be honest, I hope that she'll go away before me, so I'll be the one being sad).

I know it is a little soon, but my lady has already told me that she wants me to take care of where her ashes will be scattered.
She thinks because she is a few years older than me, that she will go first.
If she is still in my life I will carry out her wishes.

I have never had to think about things like this before, so it's a little freaky for me, but it is something we all have to think about at some stage, I suppose.

The only thing I can say is that the well keeping of the tomb matter to me!
Unfortunately I was the last son, my mother had me when she was 43, and my grand parhents were born in 1880's so.. Cemetery was part of my education, it might don't matter to the deaths as long you respect them and you pray (whatever your religion is).

Hopefully, all my loved ones (except the children I hope to adopt when I'm ready) will have passed on by the time I die. Then they won't have to worry about visiting my grave. Honestly, though, if I were to die at this very moment, my mother, father, sister, grandmother, and the rest of the would probably put flowers on my grave, for the first few years anyways. But in actuallity, when I die, I don't think anyone will put flowers on my grave.

But, hey, I'm still young, right? So I don't think I'll have to worry about that for a good 50 years or so.
