Violent Video Games should not be banned.
1). People should be more mature and not re-enact scenes from games...
2). Instead of commiting a crime in real life, why not do it on a game instead?

I don't think violent games caurse people to do bad things the fact is teenagers minds can be impressinable but lets be honest to say you hurt/killed somebody becouse it was done in a video game must mean you have a sandwich short of a picnic to start with

And these games come with an 18 certificate wich means that if kids are playig them under that age its there parents fault not the game manifacturers

But on the bad side game makers do aim violent games at an audenonce below the age of the games certifacate
 
I'm not for them and not against them. They should all have a minimum age of 18+ if they are to violent. I personally don't have problems if someone from 15 plays GTA SA, but when a 7 year old does, then I do...

Also these kind of games are not responsible for violence amongst people, it's stupid to link actions like that to video games, because now tell me, who doesn't has a copy of one of the GTA games these days? Chances that a teenager who causes trouble has a copy of that is big.

I would rather believe it has something to do with peoples diet and blame that, then their interest of video games or movies (yes it used to be movies to blame for peoples actions a few year ago, but now it's not anymore all of a sudden...strange huh?).

if you dont like your kids buying it, do your job as a parent.

video games are rated for a reason. would you let your children watch an adult movie?
 
Since I'm part of the Video Gamers Network, I personally have no problems with it, because most of the people who sign up there are teenagers and basically not allowed to play it. If I would have childeren myself, then I wouldn't allow them though.

And on the other hand it's not like the Pac-man generation ended up in dark rooms with flashing lights taking pills while listening to repetitive music...

That was a bad example wasn't it?
 
The average age of gamers hovers around 28 year in and year out.
Parents need to communicate more with their children.
Maybe even play the games with them.
I've got friends that are just as into video games as their kids.
Something like GTA just doesn't go to the 3 yr olds.

Easily said for someone with no children. One word for you: Marketing!

These games, although rated, are marketed as to draw in the younger crowds too. Ever go to a game store and see where they are located on the shelf? Usually eye level for kids...so of course they want to play them too! That doesn't mean I have to buy it, but it does make the job of the parent tougher!
 
I don't think they should ban violent games. Just because there are a few crazy apples doesn't mean the rest should be punished. My parents allowed me to play violent video games and I turned out fine. I do occasionally fantasise about disappearing down drain pipes and battling my way through 3 levels of koopa troopas, goombas and hachet men to finally arrive at the castle just so I can strangle the s*it out of those little mushroom people.

"The princess is in another castle". ...Little bastards. :auch: See, I turned out fine.
 
Parents are and SHOULD be the final aribter of what their kids see/play/do.

The Government has no place telling the rest of us what we should or should not see/play. The same goes for any media - movies, paintings, sculpture, books, etc.

If you told me you wanted to ban Michelangelo's David because children might see his naughty bits, I'd probably laugh at you.

There is no difference between this and banning Grand Theft Auto. Nothing.
 
Does anyone really draw comparisons to today's idea of "games" and the Nintendo evolution? I mean yes Mario and Luigi did some punishing damage to each other, but there was no blood and gore. Nor did you ever pump 100's of slugs into someone in the act of fun.

But I do respect that everyone has their own idea of fun and if you want to play those types of games and it keeps you from doing these deeds in real life, then go for it...but what about those poor soles who do commit crimes and then lay the blame on the gaming industry?
 
Reality vs Virtiual Reality

There are millions of PC/console gamers around the world, and usually less than 10 cases of murder have been linked with violent video games.
It is less the violent video games that makes gamers violent, but violent people might consume more violent entertainment.
It could be said that less than 1% of all violent gamers turn into shoot-out massacres. Those who blame violent games and movies for violent behaviour are usually people who just don't like it.
IMO, violent music is much more dangerous than games. Because music often defines your habit more than you might think of.

I personally have been playing violent games for at least 15 years, and I never became that aggressive in behaviour to beat down some one during quarrels or using knifes and guns to attack someone.
I was a soldier not because I love war and violence at all. I joined the Army because I saw it as a duty for a country with a small armed forces and having many young males who refuse to serve.
Although I'm interested in military gears and weapons, I always wished not to use them as long we can. I'm not trigger happy in reality, only in games.
Because in reality you are dealing with human beings like you and me. Life is precious.

By the way, if the theory of those violent game haters was true, I would be a mass murder or top terrorist LOL!
Alone in Battlefield2 I have a kill count of over 3000.

Very well said. Indeed it is disturbing me that nowadays we have so many parents who are acting with low responsibility towards their kids. They smoke in front of their babies and infants, flaming too much, and don't spend enough time to educate them in politness, virtues etc.
Today we have many parents who are too selfish and when something got wrong with their kids, they always blame the government etc.
 
Honestly, I feel that Violent games should not be banned. If someone is so against them, they should simply not associate themselves with those types of games. Simple. I don't think that by ruining everyone elses enjoyment would resove this.

it depends. I don't understand the ones who judged violent games like resident evilor metal gear solid, but if you take a look at "the rule of rose", well...it's really enough
 
I said: NO banning.

The reasons? It's the only place where I can shoot somebody without going to jail for it... or beat them to death... Is just a game for me, and I don't care if somebody else can't handle it. For children's sake? No thanx. The parents should be more aware of what they buy for their kids, but they don't like to read, do they? Just point away to blame some innocent for the stupidness of their bratz.
 
How far is too far?

What's everyones definition of too far? Yes, there are games that allow you to shoot and kill anything that moves, steal and get rewarded for it. But if anyone has played GOD of WAR, then you should know what I'm talking about.

There are nude scenes and there's even a mini game where your main objective is to make two women...well...you know "very happy". In doing so you get rewarded a lot of Red orbs . (Doesn't actually show the scene).

In general it doesn't bother me. I mean, I like the reality of video games (even if it is a little corny), but what happens when Anti-Violent Video game advocates see this? They are going to freak out! Soon there will be an Anti-Violent/Sexual Video Game rally, which is understandable, considering the Sexual content. So where do we draw the line? (Perhaps I should shut up...)

Frankly, I believe that games are going to get more and more realistic (Yes, even more so than now and no I don't mean Graphic wise). Which I think will involve many Adult scenes.

I know there is a rating of Ao. Meaning Adult. But will there soon be an XXXo rating?

I do, however, recommend it to gamers of proper age to play it.

What are your thoughts?
 
I've never understood it, I've been playing violent video games since I was little and I've never killed anyone, and I don't think I've ever been expelled from school for fighting. People always say "well we didn't know the game had such bad **** in it" Yeah ya did. Every video game I've seen has the rating on the front of the case. Then on the back it says contains: Violence, sex, adult themes, adult humor, etc.
You know I've seen a chart on crime rates in America or something that show taht crime went down after they started comming out with grand theft auto. lol.
 
What other regulations should be done, besides the rating system, that creates a bigger potential for children not to play video games.

Maybe...punishing a parent for allowing a child to play a V-Vid under their supervision. (But how do you know....I know I know)

That's just one thing that I threw out. It doesn't mean that I back that idea. It's more complicated than that. But what are some other ideas to put the blame on the parents instead of the developers.

If they are going to put a ban on violent video games, then they should also put a ban on violent movies, and anything else!

It's a sorry excuse for inapt parenting.

Heck I even used to live with someone who programmed violent video games for a living, and my child has not come up with any "violent intentions".

Anyway, life is already rubbish.
In britain we cant fox hunt, carry knives or guns without super special permits. I need my knife for fletching arrows, so that I can hunt rabbits, foxes etc.
Rabbit chunks with noodles the other day was soooooooooooooo nice.

By the way, as said above, violent programming. I program games for fun, and making violent ones is the best.

If you think about, Mario is violent. Ohhh Nooooo kids, youve learnt that killing turtles and goombas is bad. Moral - Don't jump on mushrooms, its violent. If you do, you will have a gun killing people the day after tommorow. OOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooo
 
I can see there is an argument that violent games leads to violence in real life and I'm sure some people will try to replicate the violence and/or be encouraged to be violent because of the games. But, if they are that messed in the head then they'd probably do something anyway.

And the argument about kids playing them!!! - well, that is what the censor ratings are for. I blame their parents!

I think the WWW wrestling is a much more dangerous influence. It makes kids think you can drop someone's back over your knee and they'll be OK - in other words encourages them to paralyse.
 
ahhhh a constant battle, they might as well ban life but I did read a book like that where they was no music or anything because of "violence" and things like that. People just need something to blame for their actions, I just bought the Kingdom Key from Kingdom Hearts, I don't know if you would call that game violent but I'm not going to go around hitting ppl with my keyblade and claim that I'm Sora now. Ppl should take responsiblity for their violent actions instead of blaming it on something that is their own choice of buying and playing.
