What's my status in Japan if....

You do realize, that by becoming a spouse you will have to be even more of a conformists then you ever were before!

Not so, even when I was a Marine everybody tolerated my "uniquness" because they knew I didn't grew up in America...but I did my best to conform as much as I could, I never got in trouble, not counting the time when I missed formation or was running late for work because I've slept :)

Being a military spouse, you have more layway than your Marine wife/husband...She is in the military but I'm not, I'm civilian. If some military spouses can be strippers, or worse....I'm sure I can have a longer hair, and do whatever in my free time as long as it doesn't jeopardises my wife's military carrier.

You are indeed not a civilian, you would be a spouse...a DOD ID card holder, and all rules and regulations would apply to you as well. Apart from the fact you could grow your hair longer, you still must obey all regulations. But, if your desires are to be a stripper(or worse), no one will stop you.

Wally first off the contradictions in your posts
And my wife wants some indepentence, and she's following my footsteps.
Your wife wants independence and she is joining the Marine Corps......dude I just fell off my chair on the floor laughing. I'm laughing so hard I have to run off to the loo for a sec....hold one.
She is following in your footsteps, doesnt sound that way to me, sounds like you want a free meal and plane ticket back to Japan to live out some fantasy.
Whatever, I was in the Marine Corp as well as CC1, INDEPENDENCE in the Marine Corps...
I'm done with trying to talk any sense to you Wally or even try to assist you in your illusion of what the world is about. You sound like you need the help of a serious professional

Who's laughing now?

Well, you have to look at it this way, being civilian withouth college diploma or any prospects for better job, military is a good step for her, I repeat...just the the step foward!

Of course serving in the military you have a lot of rules and limitations you have to adhere to, but also you can get valuable experience, and it always looks good on your resume if you have military service behind you. Plus; you can get money for college, familly insurance, and 30 days vacations every day, besides they pay for your travel. :-)

Besides, when I joined US Marine Corps I been in US only for 4 years, and my life was going nowhere, but since then I graduated from College, worked as a police officer, overall military experience helped me advance my carier. And I could travel all over the World, and experience different things!

Noone says she has to do carier out of the military, but even 4 years will give her good start, and its her choice, because she wants to make something out of herself, I never in any way suggested that she joined USMC.

If i needed military service on my CV i'de just join up to the territorial army (like your national guard).

I was going to but then the iraq war happened and suddenly the prospect of going to a war-zone when all i wanted was to play soldier at a few weekends suddenly didnt appeal.

Anyway wally, just...dont use your wife for any under-handed plans to find an asian woman...please.....you say your a romantic and you respect the rules of relationships and lvoe and so on, if thats so...divorce your wife and be honest with her long before you do anything heart-breakingly stupid to her.

I'm still laughing......INDEPENDENCE in the Marine Corp........

To those that know, well at least to me anyway.....that has to be one of the best lines in ignorance of all time.

Hachiro, I am sure that he ment Independence in the way that she would have her own job and own money... moreso independence from Wally, not the Corps. Still it was pretty damn funny!

I have said over and over again that I would never direct ANYONE to join the MC...I would instead point towards the Navy or AF.

Navy or AF offer good benefits but little prestige..you know that pretty well. The difference between USMC and Navy is like the diference between the brain suregon and ...the veterinarian. Enoguh said.

It was entirely her idea to join the military. I guess she thinks I'll have a chance to miss her, if she is deployed...the way I have missed Junko when I was far away from her. Besides I have told my wife that I still can not forget Junko because I really loved her. Also my wife told me she's giving me one year, if I still think about Junko she will leave me, but because she loves me still she want's to give us another chance. I'm not certain either, what I really want, but for now I know I'm not able to love my wife as much as she loves me. I'm still under Junko's spell...

Besides, my wife is joining the military because she is ambitious and doesn't want to just rely on me, I would be proud of her if she joined USMC...or Navy.

I'm supposing you would be just a bit shocked if you actually see Junko again only to find out she has put on about 30lbs and has a kid from all of the casual sex she was having! I mean you have this notion that she would see you and jump right into bed with you again. People change man, get over it already before you totally screw up your life. If you want to leave your wife, then just do it already!

Maybe you(she) should look at things from a more practical perspective. Yes, prestige does you well when looking for a job later in life! It is also said that former Marines can't spell so well!

I'll be sure to point that out to the Secretary of the Marine Corps.

That is exactly what makes me loose trust in human race. Of course people change and move on with their lifes, but how can you be so indiffrent and outright rude to your former friends and partners...? Especially that we parted without any fault from either side, no dramatic events, just our lives have went seperate ways. Although she wanted to maintain long distance relationship and reduce me to the "vacation boyrfiend" status..

No..he was being sarcastic! You brought up that there was no prestige in the Navy...yet they have a Secretary of the Navy...while the MC only has a Commandant!

rolling on the floor, laughing my *** off.

sorry Wally, but you walked right into that one!

No offence Wally, hopefully you'll not end up in this situation, but just in case, I'de love to be there if you ever meet Junko again and find her with her husband and 1-2 kids.

I dont know of many Japanese women who run off with old gaijin f**k-toys after so many years apart, when they have moved on with their life with a secure home and income from a more socially acceptable husband, and kids.

Western women in western countries seem to sometimes on the rare occassion dump their husband and kids for an old flame....but as far as i know, its practically un-heard of in japan.

Basically if you do go to Japan just to try and find Junko, again, i, and everyone else highly advise against it.

She's forgotten you, moved on, she cares not, chances are she has a family, and not only is it downright near impossible to conceive a married japanese women leaving her family and kids for some one night stand gaijin, and if she doesnt have family, its obvious by now even to you she didnt care that much, she has a life in Japan, and despite the hollywood scene where teenager love-interests meet up again decades down the line and the old juices start flowing and love is in the air, this is not reality, chances are she'll just be wierded out and call the police if you persist.

Let. her. Go.

Let Japan go.

you + wife = marriage

Try to preserve and salvage what you got and just STOP THINKING OF JUNKO.

You couldnt have loved her more, understand?....she was a fling....you had sex once or twice, then you left, and started trading emails and letters which as you have told us werent exactly the correspondance of a couple madly and deeply in love.

Honestly from all i've read i dont even think you were that sincere either...

Junko is merely the manifestation in your mind of your current problems.

Deal with your current problems and you'll deal with Junko, as i think you said, Junko wasnt even a problem until recently durring your marriage.

But persist to deceive yourself that Junko is infact the problem and suddenly you love her mroe then your wife years after you two split up and got on with your lives, and it will just f*** you over even more, because its a false conclusion to reach.

Its illogical, even in the realm of emotions, when my grandpa died and left this world, i didnt suddenly start thinking of my long dead hamster and decide to dig him up, its like your issues, your marriage is very ill and suddenly you remember an old dead relationship so now you want to dig it up, but its dead, just a rotting corpse of fading memory, nothing more, nothing less, never to be again.

I hope you and your wife manage to work it out, just yeah, some of us are worried your still dwelling around Junko, or maybe a crisis of some sort making you want to go to japan and remind you of the good ol army days.

Infact maybe thats it, Junko...Japan....its just a safe zone for you...your marriage, maybe other parts of your lfie arent as great, so you remember a happier time and you to relive it....its in the past...you have a wife who loves you, thats better then the empty promise of a passed youth...some might call this a mid-life crisis...(though your not middle-aged...) anyway, hope your managing to sort stuff out wally, i reckon you have alot of worries on your mind, thankyou for sharing them with us....though i doubt we've really helped much, it was a noble thing to share your feelings and troubles with us...i hope we've managed to honour that with at least some helpful advice.

I have quit reading this thread as a serious post and delegated it to the humor column.

Just to add to Wally....do you see that little check mark off to the upper right under ABC when you make a reply to a post?

I suggest you learn to use it before you decide to come here to Japan with your wife, and before she ends up on deployment in Iraq or some other appropriate location, and before you find out that Junko is married, weighs 30lbs more than the last time you saw her and is missing her front teeth, and before you end up having to get a job as an English teacher because you can't find a job as an artist.

Edited to add Wally I hope you know what sarcasm is!

Not good at spotting humor, are you? I'm ex-Navy and well aware that the Marines are under the Department of the Navy.

This is nothing that a bottle of Jack Dickle & a hardcore pornography addiction couldn't solve.

Just look upon you and Junko as two ships passing in the night. To quote the Beatles: "Let It Be."

For some strange and probably entirely inappropriate reason what sprung to my mind was John Entwistle's "The Window Shopper"

Since I don't have it, I am unfamiliar with the song. Since this is a written forum, I can't ask you to sing it, but can you quote any particular lyric?👍
