What was your intention learning Japanese?

Initially foreign language was just a school requirement and I chose Japanese for the challenge. I also thought it might be helpful in my career. In those days Japan was perceived much like China is today -- a major competitive force in technology industries.

I wanted to play a videogame that was only in japanese(echo night 2 ps1) and i fell in love with the language.i've recently discovered that i love more written japanese that spoken.
