What lies beneath the story? Seven shrunken men shacked up in a secluded forest cabin, hiding a virginal teenage runaway. Seven tortured forms shouldering their demonic tools as they march into the hellish bowels of the earth, singing as they go. Harmless mythic munchkins or the epitome of Evil? You decide.

In Japan Snow White has been popular as one of the fairy tales by Grimm.
When I was little, I read this story along with otherse but in the book I read the names of the seven dwarfs were not mentioned.
Maybe the those names and their lives were made up by Disney?

Only joking. This is another thread that takes away the innocence of a story. It is like the lolita bedding; innocent but opposed because people have dirty minds, not because it is dirty.

The original versions of various stories are not always so innocent. For example, the original version of the Pinocchio story has elements that would probably not be acceptable for children's literature today.*

As for the Snow White story, here is the ending (translated) of the original story from the Brothers Grimm:

Then the wicked woman uttered a curse, and was so wretched, so utterly wretched, that she knew not what to do. At first she would not go to the wedding at all, but she had no peace, and must go to see the young Queen. And when she went in she knew Snow-white; and she stood still with rage and fear, and could not stir. But iron slippers had already been put upon the fire, and they were brought in with tongs, and set before her. Then she was forced to put on the red-hot shoes, and dance until she dropped down dead.**

Most children's stories do seem to have some horrible or terrifying aspect to them. I'm not surprised about that original ending of Snow White!
