... not sure how to even respond to this one. I'm not sure if you are horribly naive, a con-artist, a troll or what, or you actually think you'll get someone from an internet forum to start a business with.

As a rule, its probably not wise to go into business with someone who refers to it as "Biz".

It might be good to give more information, Harvey san, on what line of business you have in mind.

I do know a gentleman from Malaysia who is doing business here in Japan in a nearby city, so it is possible that you can do something, however, there is another thing that is important--your ability to speak and read Japanese.

Anyway, please do firstly give a little more information. MM

Im also interested in doing business in Japan in the long term..

I will start my product design course next year (3 years), after being bachelor I would like to study japanese for 1 year in Japan. and after that become master (2 years) in product design. Then I could make the big jump to Japan. Start little as freelance product designer or apply at a product design company (maybe foreign) or start with my own company from scratch.

I read that getting products on the market in Japan is easyer than in other parts of the world. You also cant imagine what kind of products there are in Japan. So crazy things are actually succesfull. I like that a lot, be able to be very creative.

Actually the opposite. Products that are legally available in other countries are unobtainable in Japan in some cases. Or they do come to Japan, but much later and tend to be more expensive.

Yeah but, I mean I read somewhere that as a product designer you can easily go to a shop and present your product to the shop keeper. If he likes your product he buys it from you and you can start spreading your product. Then it could get known mouth-to-mouth and you may get more request..

Anyway as I explain it, it seems like its piece of cake hehe. Im aware that its not THAT simple to fulfill the needs of the Japanese people. I do think that Japanese people would buy more easily rather unfamiliar products ? maybe im wrong, but as you see what kind of products they have on the market. Ofcourse I dont know if they are THAT succesfull..

What you say is the consequence of how hard it is to import products in Japan. If you know that the main japanese industries are car and motor production, industrial and transportation equipment, electronics, steel, machine tools etc. Japan doesnt really have to import any finished products cause their products belong to the best of the world. They would only import products like really typicall to a country, for example the USA or a european country. But that is product differsification and I guess most countries do that..

And they may also want to give their own product designers a change towards the ones from the outside. Seems also pretty logic to me.

This is also what I have heard, and actually a friend of my wife is doing this, she makes glass accessories and she went to shops to show her stuff, some took it and after 4 years a big store in Tokyo found out about her stuff and want to do some business with her.

There are many design conventions in Japan, where you say can bring your products and market them... But, I think that marketing products to Japan by westerners is often enough trying to market products that they already make in abundance themselves...

If you are marketing yourself to Japan, you have to market your foreign-ness, not what you think Japanese people might like.

Cool site Baka. I know it is possible, but Japan is a tough market to break into. Even many products are better, the Japanese are very reluctant to let them in, and then at sky high prices. One thing I have seen a lot of is at better private doctors and dentists is German and American medical equipment.
