Thousands of fans tearfully said goodbye to a family of four giant pandas departing for China. On 28 June, around 300 staff members at Adventure World gathered to bid farewell to the animals that had long held a special place in their hearts.
The pandas—Rauhin, a 24-year-old female, along with her daughters Yuihin (8), Saihin (6), and Fuhin (4)—were all born at Adventure World but are now being sent back to China, as they remain the property of the Chinese government. Each of the four pandas was placed in a transport cage and loaded onto two trucks for the journey. According to zoo officials, the animals displayed their usual behaviour during the departure.
Their departure means that only two giant pandas remain in Japan. Both are at Tokyo's Ueno Zoological Gardens and are also due to return to China next February.
