TV show in America that was about Japanese family maybe in fishing villiage?

It's a long shot, but a few years ago I remember there was a TV show being aired here in the states that took place in either Japan, or maybe even Hawaii about a Japanese family, perhaps in a fishing village? I don't remember much, it was a realistic type show, probably made in the 2000's, but not a documentary. More like just a general interested light comedy drama soap opera maybe? I'd know it if I saw a video or screenshot. I say fishing village because I remember the house or main place seemed to be nearly tropical and near water, but in traditional construction, not a modern type house or apartment like most tv shows take place in. I think the main characters where probably teenage or slightly older girls and maybe a younger brother and their parents? I could be way off though its been a long while and I only saw a handful of episodes! Think it aired here in the mid 2000's....thanks all!
