The Meaning of LOVE

I think I've figured out what love is once and for all and it's so simple. It's friendship + attraction. That's it. Sure it can get more complicated than that, but at its core, that's it. Just ask yourself, would you be friends with the person even if there was no chance of being with them? Are you attracted to them? If yes, you're in love. There are varying degrees, but that's it.

Brooker, that's it. That is what I believe, but couldn't find the right wording. I agree with you 100 percent.

I think I'm still learning what love really means. I should think about it more often.

One thing I know is that I shouldn't take it as granted. What I love is not immortal, can disappear suddenly and needs to be treasured every minute of it.

Bar minor other factors, i think you've hit the nail right on the head.

Although im never as comfy and close and intimate with my best mate then i am with my girlfriend i think its about right, sitting together watching futurama, playing about like a bunch of kids in bed, if anything love is a friendship and companionship that far outweighs even best-friendship with a mate you've known all your life.

Its definately friendship, im sure of it its just, its such an intimate close emotionally jonied friendship, its basicly two halves of the same heart if you get what i mean, its such a clsoe friendship your like, individuals, but, your still one half of somethnig greater, and when the other half hurts or doesnt feel well, you feel it with them, and when your together, life couldnt be any more complete, and when your apart, you feel like your getting by in crutches, like your missing a leg and have to struggle on.

Man i love my girlfriend U_U...miss her to.

Ummm no c'mon. I tend to beleive in the primal instincts of man. Love scientifically and factually is an super strong attraction based on the most primal of connections between people..... ie chemical and visual stimuli. It doesn't matter how good of a friend u may be or think u are with someone.... if there is not this natural compatability i don't think u have love, u may think u have, u may be fooling urself into it..

Of course intellectual connections help to make the bond stronger but let's not confuse love and relationships. Love is just the feeling of that bond, of that attraction, the state of being whilst under that influence or that affluent feeling. Relationships are different from love. So maybe friendship + attraction is a good realtionship, yes i agree on that, but I don't think that it is love.

Every Day Has Some Fear In It.

For me, love isn't wanting to be with my wife.

It's not being able to imagine life without her.

The fear of life without a certain person is a sign of love to me. I'm not sure if I would want to go on with life if I lost my wife. Close friends or family don't generate that fear in me.

But it sounds like you're agreeing with what I said. Don't you need compatibility with someone to be their friend?

@nurizeko...
Of course you're not that comfy with your mates - you're not also attracted to them.

Bingo, sadly its a fear that appears is going to be a concern everytime me and my girlfriend are apart, she always says break-up when we have a quarrel but this is the first time it really feels really bad and i dunno, before i was always calm and even if i didnt speak to her for a day, i could cope but now im just a wreck :S, i just really hope she comes round soon and tries to make up....i hate these stupid pseudo-break up quarrels U . I mean compatibility in the biophysical sense.

:? Kind of trying to figure you what you mean by that. Compatible body parts? Attractive odors?

I'm guessing Duo means basically physical attraction, the animal's instinct. This would be your physical/biological/chemical reaction to them.

yeah... compatability in nature... odors as well are really important as they tell you wether the other person has a different immune system than yours, important for the offspring.

What does love mean to me? That question is a little vauge don't you think? I mean there are nine types of love, so which one are you truly pertaining to?

Affection?
Romantic?
Committed?
Sexual?
Puppy?
Infatuation?
Platonic?
Friendship?
Passionate?

Just which type of love are you wanting to know how I feel about? Or do you want to know how I feel about each one? This thread is too vauge. If you want to know which types of love I prefer, then I would have to say platonic and friendship as anything with the sexual or irrational nature just doesn't attract me.

Doc 🙂

3months to go, and I can do love to my wife...

*just updating the thread haha*

1. I think general love consists of caring about someone deeply and only wanting good and positive things to happen in their lives.
I agree with Brooker on romantic love. I don't think it involves money, convenience, or external circumstances. It's friendship and attraction to the fullest extent. Two simple concepts combined to make the greatest feeling in the world.
2. I'm currently madly in love with someone who loves me back just as much. What more could a guy want? 👍
3. I think love brings peace, the general love anyway. I guess romantic love can bring "war" between two people in love with the same person. Back to the general love though, I think if everyone had this for everyone else we would have no more wars. Now religion, that starts wars. I think everyone should do like me and make love their religion. Sounds weird, but think about it.
4. Gosh, so many songs to pick from, especially for a softie like me! A few of my favorite are "Love" by John Lennon, "The Fragile" by Nine Inch Nails, "By Your Side" by Sade, "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star, "When We Dance" by Sting, and "Layla" by Eric Clapton. My all-time favorite would probably be "Make You Feel My Love" by Bob Dylan. The Garth Brooks cover version of it is great too. I could name many more, but I'll spare everyone. :p
😍

The meaning of love is something that only one must figure out on their own.

Love is precious, and can't be taken for granted.

I agree there. It can be felt by anyone, but no one can trully explain it. I'm a Communication major and an English minor in college, but I couldn't begin to do it justice.

Love and Like

As many people know, love is a complex word. Since it's just a simple 4 letter word, It can get misused. For instance, you can love something or you can like something. People commonly think that both mean the same. Love puts more emphasis or more emotion in a situation.:-) Like on the other hand can be used for even the little things;meaning you can like a certain pair of shoes ( even though you may mot LIKE them.) Hopefully this is making some sense. 😌

Love is not something we should try to decipher the meaning of, in my opinion. It's different for everyone, and we each have ways of knowing what it means. All I can say about it is, you'll know what it is when it hits you, and when it does, just accept it and be happy. I know I am. ^_^

I was talking to my sister last night, and she said when she met her husband she just knew something was right.
She said she stopped analysing things the way she had with previous (bad) relationships. She'd been with guys who would talk about love really easily, but were actually very insincere.

Love is just a word, which is unfortunately abused by some people.

Here is an example of love. It was our anniversary last week. We took some time off work and went out for the day. It was only 2 hours down the motorway that I remembered what day it was. I reminded my husband and he said "Oh yes, so it is", and we both laughed. :-)

Does that make any sense at all?

Love is what you make of it...
There is no generall meaning for the word love everyone has his own unique description of it in his/her head.
