Student Loans?

I'm a rising senior, and I plan on applying for the MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship when I graduate in 2008. I'm having a hard time getting my parents to warm up to the idea of me studying overseas, especially as an undergraduate, and I think a lot of it has to do with financial issues. From what I've researched, MEXT seems to have the best scholarship, but to apply for it, you cannot have any other scholarship.
My question is, how do you get students loans for international study?? Can you? Any past recipients of the scholarship, please share your experiences!

I've never heard of the idea of student loans in Japan - everyone I know pays full up front.

If you go through an accredited University study aboad program, you can use your nomal student loans IF your school will allow you to get credit for the study aboad classes.
