Hello, I'm new here and glad that I found this forum, this seems to be quite a good place to learn Japanese, ask questions and talk about Japan
I have some sentences that I have like half translated, but where I can not be sure because I'm not sure about some grammatical thing in them...>///< so it would be good if someone could give me advice concerning those sentence.
This text is very personal and important to me >///<
1)何を見て笑えばいいの?
The -ba ii no form is quite unclear for me what it really means, I know just the normal -ba form of verbs, but -ba ii no? I have read it can be "should do something" or that -ba ii no ni has something to do with wishing something...I have read many possibilities and am very confused about this >///<
also this sentence is even more confusing with mite in the -te form before the waraeba ii no... I thought when waraeba ii no shall mean "should I laugh", I find this sentence strange...What should I laugh to see? It would make sense if it was the other way round "What should I see to laugh?"...but like this...I have no clue
2) the little word まま, it is used often in sentences, sometimes translated (but always different) and sometimes untranslated, so what does it mean? Does it really depend on the sentences what it means?
3) then -達 like in bokutachi, watashitachi etc. I read sentences where a normal word is attached with -tachi, like ko-tachi, or yakusoku-tachi...how can we translate this? We-kids, We-promise...Our promise?
and my dictionary shows me that ko(domo)-tachi is only used in Kansai dialect, is this true? or do Kanto people for example also use it accidentally?
The full sentence conserning yakusoku-tachi would be: 果たせなかった約束達が, 引き寄せ合って, 擦れ違ってく...
...so "our not fullfilled promise", can I translate this like this?
Also I'm confused about 引き寄せ合って, because 引き寄せる means attracting and 合って like suit(it suits?)?
4) What is a good translation for "途中"? middle of the way? on the way? If we say 今は旅の途中。 It is the middle of the way from the journey now. or I'm on the way of the journey?
5) Then the little word "だって" when it stands at the end of a sentence what meaning does it have?
(例えば其れが 過去の自分を否定する事だって。 For example, it's a thing that my past self denies... but it's not complete, the datte is missing and maybe it goes somehow together with koto or sore ga? that sentence is hell difficult for me >///<)
6) 明日を歌うの
Why is there a particle o after Ashita/Asu...wouldn't it be correct/like I know, Ashita (ni) (uta o) utau? How can I translate it if the o is after Ashita?
7) 風口ずさむ
Can I translate this: The wind hums? Shouldn't there be a wa/ga after kaze?
8) 消せやしないから, "またいつか。" って , ずっと笑ってて。
Can I translate this: Because I won't (ever) erase, I said, "See you someday", continuously laughing?
the 笑ってて is concerning me here as well...why -ttete? I only know the grammatical -te form and the -tte form for quoting...
9) いつもそうやって逃げてできたんだよ。
Can I translate this: "I could always escape that way/like this/ doing it so/doing it like this" ?
10) 目覚してよ。
Wake up! or "I'm waking up" or can it mean both? (The text goes further: Wake up!/I'm waking up. Can you hear it? My voice is a friendly memory.)
11) 行き交う人波に, 少しだけ疲れました。
Why is there the particle ni? What does it mean in this context?
With (?) the coming and going crowd, I got a little bit tired.??? (but with is normally to...)
or just the crowd is coming and going, I got a little bit tired.
Thank you so so so so much for every answer beforehand, if you can just answer me one it's more than good as well
Because I asked everything of my text I didn't know and that is much x'DD
