Skinny island?

It's a bit weird for my first post but I just had this burning question; see my friend insists there are parts of Japan that are skinny only. I've told them they were a *****. I mean I couldn't help but notice the growing popularity of fastfood chains while I was there so there a year back ... how could there be anywhere still exclusively skinny? But then I just remembered some of the other ryuugakusei went by keio university and they said it was entirely bijin (beatiful people) or "pretty boys" as they put it. They said they actually review pictures and stuff if you apply. So i my friend right afterall? Are there actually strict standards for weight on getting into some Japanese schools? My friend is worried he won't get in and now I really want to know the answer. Thanks

Somehow I doubt such prestigious universities would base their selection on looks...

It is true they take passport pictures if your applying for exchange but thats mainly for identity purposes more than how pretty you are.

There are cases where you can be knocked back for entrance for the way you look. Being overweight here carries a stigma that you cannot manage yourself properly and if you can't control your weight then you can't control other facets of your life or surroundings. So yes there is still places that will knock you back for the way look, but it is not like you have put it where there are only skinny people allowed, more so if your grades are boarderline then your appearence can have a detrimental effect on your chances.

Just a guess, but they (the ryugakusei) met lots of full-blooded Keio students whose parents and/or grand parents were Keio graduates and their kids went to Keio from its kindergarten.

Tell him to summon onigiri rice balls, not bread, in breakfast for his first three months, (if possible not to use a fry-pan dishes, either), and I am 100% sure that he will lose weight.

There is a private high school here in my town whose female students seem to run very heavily toward the buxom end of the spectrum.

The phenomenon the OP encountered of ryuugakusei reporting 100% of the women at a particular school to be beautiful is probably entirely attributable to the fact that the percentage of Japanese women who strike foreigners as being beautiful starts off very close to 100% when they first get here and then gets adjusted downward over a period of months or years.

Foreign women benefit from the same phenomenon in reverse, with many Japanese men finding some Western women to be drop-dead gorgeous who wouldn't get a second glance back home.

I suppose it is possible that the students in major universities in big cities tend to be a bit more image-conscious compared to their counterparts in minor universities in rural areas.... but I really don't think their looks could be a factor during the admission process.ﾂ

If looks were a factor in determining who went to university I think I would have been outright rejected XD.

I'm guessing the front most criteria will be your grades and your motivation for wanting to study in Japan. In the selection criteria of my university there is a strong emphasis on academic performance, then on motivation for wanting to study in Japan. As long as you can show you are focused and have done reasonably in your academic performance I can't see how they would reject you based on looks. The only other thing is competition for places overseas...and that can change depending on the year...so dont give up!

Just do it, dont be afraid they'll reject you for this reason or that reason...you gotta be in it to win it!

As long as you can show you are focused and have done reasonably in your academic performance I can't see how they would reject you based on looks. The only other thing is competition for places overseas...and that can change depending on the year...so dont give up!

I beg to differ. I know of a lot of medical students being knoked back due to them being overweight when they are boarderline ok in their grades.(My cousins being some of them. The answer was basically come back when you lose weight) Do I agree with this? Yes I do, you need to show some self control to be able to have peoples lives in your hands. I don't want a doctor who can't control him/herself saying that I should cut back on agemono.
