Saddam Hussein convicted and sentenced to death

I wouldn't kill even in self defence

Perhaps that is why all this is beyond my comprehension

I can't kill anything not a flea a fly a human nothing not for any reason in any cercomstances

So i find it all very difficult to understand

a matter of priorities..

Well as far as survival goes everyone will have his instincts kick in and take control if there is a life threatening situation at hand and I believe everyone would kill in these situations in order to survive even if we cannot come to terms with this fact due to our moral ideals.

I find it far less disturbing to see humans killing each other ,than to see humans killing other creatures.
At least if a human dies there is always the chance he "deserved" it by the standarts of guilt we have in our modern world ,while 80% of animals only act on instincts.

I know it is not the same thing but i'm very allergic to wasps well i kinda got stuck in a small space with one ^_^;;

And everybody was trying to kill the poor thing but i wouldn't let them even though i knew it was likley to sting and even though it could have possibly killed me

I would rather that happen than kill it

This sounds really stupid to most people lol ^_^;;

But i think my instincts would kick in to protect somebody that i love if that wasp had been around somebody that i love i would have done anything to protect them

All this sounds dumb doesn't it lol ^_^;;

but in referance to humans and animals.
we're animals just aswell,yes were advanced,but were a kind of primate..
Though they're dull we have instincts too..

Yes I know but our decisions in most occasions are made up by 70% "free will"

Feel sorry for the poor dude.

If free will exists, it is truly limited.

Wouldn't kill unless it was a last resort to saving a life.

I think he deserves to be punished severely, but I am opposed to murder unless it's self-defence. Death would be the easy way out for such a man.

I sometimes think we should stop and ask ourselves,"if these people`s voices could still be heard,what would they say?"The world is going to crumble beneath our feet if we`re not careful.Its been millennia and humankind has learned nothing,we still fight for absolutely nothing.We fight each other because of religion,race,politics,sex,orientation,etc.maybe Saddam should be hanged,maybe he shouldn`t.I guess it depends on perspective.All I can say is that governments gaining too much power.

To bad I would rather see him rot in hell, than an easy bye bye life.

Can't understand why people are so happy with the Death Sentence, because it isn't really a punishment if you ask me, life sentence would be!

In my opinion capitol punishment is not about justice for the convicted but rather about vengence for the affected.

I didn't think that the U.S. would have allowed the trial of Saddam to proceed if they thought there was even a chance that the outcome would have been less than capitol punishment. I'm sure they would have come up with some excuse to continuously postpone the trial.

Personally, I think that even assuming that he is guilty of all of the bad things he is accused of, he should not be executed, but rather made to live the remainder of his years in less than "posh" surroundings to contemplate his actions. And no, I don't think he should be allowed to publish any books or poetry or whatnot while in prison.

People shouldn't be the judge about who lives and dies...but that's the system and what can you do about it. He didn't even had a fair trial....how can it be fair if four of your lawyers get killed? Not fair at all...and shouldn't Bush be killed then either for all the innocent people he killed in "his war"?

They had nothing to search there in the first place, Iraq never was a treat to America or any other country other then Iran. This whole matter has gotten out of control...

I am not for this death penalty.

I am in complete agreement with all this, and Mikawa has done an excellent job of articulating well what I couldn't on another forum.

The Iraqi desire for vengeance is quite understandable, but I truly feel the desire for vengeance being built on anger and hatred is actually detrimental to the Iraqi's (or anyone's for that matter) happiness. What some of the Tibetans in intentionally generating compassion for the Chinese despite all the Chinese have done to them doesn't sound easy at all, but they do seem a lot happier for it. Makes sense in light of recent findings in neuroscience.

Personally I think we have to get away from the whole punishment system we should rather concentrate on compensating the victims and rehabilitating the criminal.

Yea i agree with that i mean they put a criminal away for so many years let them out and they do the same thing again

I think we also have to look at the course of crime in the first place

But there is also the moral dilema of do some criminals deserve to be rehabilitated i mean some crimes commited are so horendeous does the crimial deserves to have the second chance his victim did not

But then if the crimial feels great guilt for what they have done

It is so difficult becouse some crimes can be forgiven and some never can

I find myself at a cross roads with that oftain becouse there are some crimes where i could just *makes angry face*

Is it possible to reach a place where there is total forgivness for a person regardless of what they have done ?

I think that is a big question

Isn't there some crime on the books for aiding and abetting?

"Shaking Hands with Saddam Hussein"

Rumsfeld said nothing about killings during his visits,
one which ocurred just after. Support continued to flow.
Making US gov't officials actively complicit.

Forgiveness is simply being kind to the self, yeah I try to forgive simply cause I'd rather not be holding that anger or hatred, but actually be better able to enjoy life

Some criminals should never be allowed freedom, not because they need to be punished, but more cause they are simply a threat to other people, and rehabilitation may not be possible for them.

Interesting; How do you feel about our prime minister's comments on this subject?

I don't think forgivness is a self thing i forgive people becouse i don't want to hurt them becouse i don't want to see them sad

You forgive people in order to improve your personal relations to them and let the society work.
Imagine what would happen if everyone had a grudge againgst vermuch anyone he knows not very productiv.
Most emotions or reactions to emotions are only reflexes to regain a state in which a society can funktion nothing more nothing less.

I understand there are other reasons to forgive, I was just providing a good selfish reason to do so.

The man would be easier to forgive if he repented, showed honest regret and contrition, admitted his guilt and surrendered to the penalty. Heck, he'd be easier to forgive if he would just submit to his sentence.

No matter what the context is, I personally believe that NO ONE has the right to take others' lives even if they are criminals..In fact that would make them the same as those criminals. Besides that, if someone commits a crime won't he remain human and enjoy his actual basic right to live?

My country still legitimates death sentence which makes me even more resentful to this primitive way of punishment.. Plus, I think some laws are corrupted to a level that political power owns your life! I'm actually very sure now that right lies in the hand of the powerful and the weak must suffer infinitely..
