Religion in Japan

Hello everyone, this is my first post
I've always been interested in Japan, mainly Japanese traditions and history but also the landscape, manga, food etc.
One main thing that interested me was how religion in Japan compares to Religion in Europe.
I already know that Japanese religion is a mix of Buddism and other religions but thats about all i know.
I want to find out things like How popular is it? How strict is it? Where do people go to pray? Are children brought up religiously? Anything that you think might help
In comparison to the UK, where I'm from, Religion isn't as popular as in other countries and recently a report said that in 30 years christianity in Britain will have died out.

There is really no established religion per se in Japan. Families don't go to shrines for regular religious services, like Christians do. Shrines and temples are more for special events (weddings, funerals, festivals). There is no "Sunday school" for Buddhism, either. Shintoism and Buddhism are more a way of mind here than any formally taught religion.
