I live in the US and have lost touch with my relatives in Nagoya Japan I have an old address and have recently tried to send a letter to that address and it was returned with a stamp "return unknown" How do I find if the address has changed or if that address is even still the same? I realize after 42 years since I visited them there in 1981 that many things have changed as it has here in the US. I would like to be able to connect with relatives again but it seems impossible since my mom has passed. Can anyone help me or give me any advice? Thank you !

The old address you have could probably be looked up to see what's standing there now on google maps.
If you have names, especially of multiple relatives, it may be possible to look them up. Especially if you have other means to identify them like if they owned a business or had some kind of profession or hobby that landed them in the news.
Have you tried to see if they're on any social media?

Yes I have tried to look on social media and have had no luck in finding cousins. My uncles had a construction business back in 1981 but I do know the name of it. I never thought to ask.

If it was a small business, chances are it was named same as their last name. My in-laws do construction and the business name is <last name>+工務店. But it's just Mom & Pop style.
