I would like to second that "Shall We Dance" is not even close to the American remake. Funny and touching movie.

I just watched Swallowtail Butterfly and Poppoya-Railroad Man. Excellent pair of films! Swallowtail Butterfly is about the Yentowns (take your pick of people or place). It's a very intense movie and very very good. Zatoichi was good - the music with sounds thing was pretty cool too (but out of place).

I loved Onmyoji, and Postman's Blues, and Kagen no Tsuki. Maybe not the "best" movies, but I've seen them all more than once.

Sorry, This is a super duper late reply to your comment. I too love this guy, he is fantastic! Every film he has made, or been in that I have seen, I have loved! I owned both when I was in New Zealand, and currently they have been playing Zatoichi alot here in Korea.
Dont you just love 'Merry Christmas Mr Rollins'? Thats the beautiful orchestra opening in the film Kikujiro.
Oh dear I could go on and on and on...... but I wont.

Hehe who is sick and likes 'The Audition'? I think I have written about this elsewhere however....

If anyone decides to make a thread of 'Worst Japanese movies' please dont be shy and put 'Otenki onesan 1&2' on the top. I just thought that these movies were only any good for laughing at the ridiculousness of them

Genuine story of one`s life and life of the generation. Nothing to compare with narration. Three points of view on one man.

Just a few days before watched anime Peacemaker, also about Shisengune (sp?) But they are apart, different stories

and another one japanese after which i cried like a baby "Nobody knows"
