Problems displaying Japanese in Hotmail?

I have installed the language pack and have got the romaji intperater or what ever its called, I can type emails in Japanese and send them. But when people reply to me it just comes through as jibirish, I tryed setting my acount to Japanese.
But the same still happend, however if I refreshed the page it would then display in japanese. But if my acount is not set to japanese then the refresh trick does not work, what is going on here. I dont want to have my acout set to japanese just so I can veiw these sorts of emails, its a pain in the arse!

There is no other way...btw, if you set it to Japanese, it should STAY on Japanese, not switch back.
