Predicting Earthquakes

namaste bhai !! OK, I'll keep my senses open, and we'll wait and see what happens. In the meantime, do you have a percentage of probability of the actual occurance of a quake in that one month time span, and one of the magnitude? If you did, I think it'd be good to post that too.

This just in. . .

Well The Daily Yomiuri (an English language newspaper under the Yomiuri newspaper) ran an article entitled: Signs of Major Quake detected in W. Japan

According to this article, strain energy has accumulated on the edge where the Philippine Sea Plate and that upon which the Japanese archipelago sit meet. The lack of smooth forward motion of the Philippine plate into (underward) of the other of 4.8 to 6.2 centimeters annually suggests that the boundaries are firmly fixed (the smooth annual rate would be 6.8 centimeters) which would imply an accumulation of energy.

This area lies in one expected epicentral area for the Nankai Earthquake, predicted to hit the Shikoku area to Kii Peninsula, according to studies by researchers at Kyoto University's Disaster Prevention Research Institute. The results of the study were presented at the Japan Geoscience Union meeting this past Sunday in Chiba.

May be a connection, maybe not. . . we'll just have to wait and see. BUT I'd still like to hear probability forcasts. :-)

THERE WILL BE AN EARTHQUAKE IN JAPAN IN EASTERN HONSHU OR NORTH-EASTERN HONSHU ON 27/28 MAY 2006 OF MAGNITUDE 5.7 TO 6.4 ON RICHTER SCALE.
 
There was a shake which jolted the southern Chiba area this past Saturday afternoon. It registered a 3 on the Japanese scale, but is said to have had 4.5 prelimnary jolt. It was reported on by the Meterological Agency as having been 80 kilometers below ground. There had been no tsunami warnings, and none were reported on it seems.

sorry for late reply.as you know i predicted an earthquake on 27/28 may 2006 which didnt occur.sorry for this failure,i have to work hard on these moderate earthquakes as you know i am pretty busy on doing research on other topics and not been able to give my 100% for earthquake predictions.as far as strong one are concerned i can predict them more accurately.and i am 100% sure that they occur but i like your idea of percentage of probability.so i want to say for my next prediction that i am 100% sure that there will be a strong earthquake in japan on the days predicted by me in june though there can be 2 or 3 days gap from the predicted dates sometimes but earthquake will surely occur and will be strongest of this year till date.tsunami is also likely to occur after this quake.as you know not a single earthquake above magnitude 6.0 has occured in japan after 17 dec 2005 which was predicted by me.i dont predict every week or day.i dont say that i can predict each and every earthquake but as you know 4 to 5 strong earthquake occur in japan annually from which i can predict 3 to 4 i think it is more than enough.till date my success rate is 75%.i can aslo predict typhoons or heavy rains which is likely to hit japan on 6 or 11 june 2006.

UPDATE: There was a tremor yesterday (Mon.) around 5 a.m. in the Shikoku area. It registered around 5 on the Japanese scale, and some people were injured, but no deaths recorded at the time of the article.

Thanks for the information. Yes, the tsuyu (rainy season) is here now, and it's doing its thing outside my window at the very moment. (I'm at the house now, and it's almost bed time)

Hi there rahul bhatnagar san. Thanks for the updates. I didn't hear any news about the rattle in the Tokyo area, but could have just missed it.

I will keep my ears and eyes open. The area I live may not get much tremor from even a quake of that size, occuring in the area predicted. Let's see what happens. Catch you later !! MM

though earthquake has not occured on the predicted date but i still believe that risk is not over yet and earthquake can occur on 3 or 5 july 2006.
the date of 3 july was predicted by me in the emails sent to sismologist of japan earlier but didnt add it on my website as i was bit over confident for 28 june.so be careful.

Yes, I understand. . . It is for that reason, however, that I feel it would be good to put some degree of probability attachment to each prediction.

there were two earthquake measuring 5.4 on 1 july and 6 july of 5.3 in the area predicted by me but not too strong as i predicted.the earthquake occured on 1 july 2006 was though strongly felt in north-eastern areas.earthquake of such magnitude has occured after almost 6 months.last one in this area was on 18 jan 2006 of 5.7 magnitude.just check these pages and then check my location predicted-

Hope all is going ok there. Here, the rainy season is going into the second half--and it usually rains more then--but I have the sunshine in my heart to last until the real sun comes pouring out again !!

It may be good to post all your earthquake predictions here, rather than elsewhere, then it'd be easier to compare the results. I didn't catch news of those tremors.

heavy rains or typhoon will strike japan from 25 to 30 july 2006.i dont predict normal rains that occur usually in rainy season but those that can cause damage to both life and property.so take care,no need to worry though.

i predicted a typhoon on 25 july in japan though typhoon occured but changed its course to taiwan and eastern china close to ryukyu island of japan.it strike china exact on 25 july caused lot of damage and casuality,killing 32 people. i will try to be more accurate in future. typhoon will surely occur on the dates predicted by me .i will predict for this region only northern-eastern taiwan,eastern china , south-western japan where most typhoons strike.

as i predicted typhoon on 13 aug it strike china 2/3 days before and was strongest in 50 years killing 83 peope and another strike japan.typhoon will surely occur near my predicted dates and the region only in northern-eastern taiwan,eastern china , south-western japan where most typhoons strike which was mentioned by me earlier.check these sites-
