This forum here was set up for setting up gatherings, parties, what have you.

Who is down for a community get-together? It seems most of us are adults, independant enough to fly to meet total strangers we've only talked through these boards, but never met in the flesh before. Sounds like a great idear.

I know that sounds like some of my dry bit of humor, but I'm partially serious.

I Have To Admit.....

I've thought about dividing the US into 6 parts, 3 north & 3 south and seeing if people in the areas(including Canada) could get together. If we found an airport in each area that had discount flights in & out and clean but low budget hotels, we could meet and not go broke doing it. I guess it's something you would have to study all the angles on and see how many people would go.

having the meetings at a special event or fun location.An example might be Las Vegas, Disneyland, Superbowl, Daytona 500. It would be something to spend your money on that gives back besides the meeting. Like combining a vacation with the meeting.

Yeah but this isn't the Disneyland or Superbowl forum, this is the Japan forum and if you ask me if you all have any kind of party it should either be in Tokyo or the Kansai area, it'd be a lot easier and more fun if you ask me. Also then all the kids who can't fly yet can just check out whatever photos/videos you all get of the event itself.

We Were Trying To Have Low Cost Be....

the main issue. We figured if we tried to get groups of about 10 people who live under a 1000 miles from each other; to meet in a central area where the hotels and plane fare were dirt cheap, people could afford to meet.
For me to fly to Japan from Maine would break my piggy-bank!

what we could do is ask!! If anyone is travelling to example!! Disneyland Orlando!! ask for a meet!!! we all live far apart, and I would love to have the spare cash to_meet in Japan!! Un, fortunately!! I simply couldn't afford(to my shame, husband,2 kids, 1 of which is ADHD). very expensive son!! (hehe) a pair of shoes (Clarkes) last him 4-6 days, slippers (trainers,) last him 2-5 days!!! School uniform!! I buy him 3 pairs of trouser/jumpers/shirts/ ties are in abundance!!! At a time, this ties me to a financial problem! upkeep of my son!!! , however, there's no member here at this board, that could visit Ireland, and I would hesitate to travel to their destination in this Island!!!
If you are planning to come to Ireland!!!! Tell me!!! My home is my castle!! If you need a place of rest on your travels!! I"m sure my husband and I can give you an Irish welcome!!!

Travel Money Is Hard To Come By !!

If you own or rent a home, have kids, have a vehicle, pay for insurances; they all drain the pocket. To try to figure how to have a member get togeather that is affordable is difficult! Maybe if we keep tossing ideas around, our colective heads can come up with something.

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking,, Sakuracon for me tho costs atleast 500.00 for the three days and so I bet a JapRefCon would be somewhere on those lines,

Not quite sure about the price of trains or domestic flights in the US, but if it's like in Japan, it would be cheaper for you to come to Tokyo (round-trip ticket Tokyo to LA or New York from 300 US$ in Japan, cheaper than a shinkansen ticket Tokyo-Osaka-Tokyo !)
