Hi all,
yesterday I saw a thread about a Japanese magazine showing young girls in swimming suit. That post reminded me something I always wonder about Japanese cultureﾂ…I mean odd sexual fantasies.
So far, I think I've managed to find 2 peculiar Japanese sexual fantasies. One is pretty funny, the other one instead could be even quite disturbing if you see it under a certain light.

Before that, let me say this: there could be a couple of mistakes in my ﾂ"westernﾂ" way to see things, but I'm in good faith, so just forgive me if this happens (I don't want Obeika San to tell me off again ). Consider also the fact that my ideas were created by Japanese product ﾂ"themselvesﾂ", videogames, comics, cartoons and Japanese films produced and created by Japanese people and not from western people.
And if it's true that behind a videogame/comic/film/cartoon there's always a mind of an author, nevertheless those ideas come, in a certain sense, from Japanese culture itself, maybe they're lying in the deep, even in the subconscious, but they exist anyway.


Having said that, let's talk about the ﾂ"dangerousﾂ" fantasy before.
What amazed me is the (sometimes rough) attention towards the world of childhood/adolescence regarding sex.
First of all, the almost morbid idea that makes Japanese people think that a girl dressed like a school/college-girl is exciting.
Honestly, what's so exciting about a girl dressed in a school uniform? Once, my friends and I decided to download a porno movie from internet (ok, I never been a saint in my adolescence, and neither nowﾂ…but it's not the main pointﾂ… ). Eventually we decided for a japanese one. Really I can't forget that evening: we were 6 people and all of us just split one's sides laughing when we watched the main actress dressed like a college-girl, wanting to be very exciting too! If even the most exciting girl of this world tries to turn me on dressed likeﾂ…"Sailor Moon", I would laugh so much to risk an heart attack!
And this kind of odd fantasy sometimes is also linked with the fantasy of ﾂ"absolute powerﾂ" of a man towards a woman, that is a man who can do everything (like God) to a poor, docile, woman who accept everything as well, without even protest, like a doll!
Ok, a part from porno, let's talk about a Japanese ﾂ"normalﾂ" film, actually a series of 5 films called ﾂ"The perfect educationﾂ". ﾂ"The Perfect education 2ﾂ" is basically the story of an high school girl (so she is already dressed with an uniform!) being kidnapped by a man for the purpose of training her to be a docile sex toy. The man does everything to her during the film and eventually she fells in love with him(!!). Really an utterly worthless piece of junk that, as I read in a website would be, at best, a B-Movie in Western countries, while in Japan, (no offence) you get a series that apparently had a good economical success!
And what about mangas? Even if I don't like comics, I had a schoolmate in junior school who was a fan of them, so I read ﾂ"Orange Roadﾂ" and ﾂ"Videogirl Aiﾂ" and some others I can't remember at the moment. Anyway, from what I realised, in most of them, almost all the story are based on male teenager, (especially weird ones or nerds) having their first love (but also sex) experiences with teenager girls. If is true that most of the time these stories are well-written and delicate, sometimes they could also be mean for people of that age. I can't remember the name of one of these comics, but there is one of them in which there's a scene with a schoolgirl coming back to school and masturbate herself (!) in her room looking a picture of a schoolmate(!). That could be exciting for a 12 years old guy, but when you grow up you start to think that this kind of comics could also be read by man, even sick ones. And what about Orange Road in which in a scene Madoka dressed like a school girl (!) is almost raped by some punks in a sort of dream world or maybe in a dream (I can't remember) by the guy who likes her?
And why don't we talk about videogames? Let's consider vgs like ﾂ"True Loveﾂ" (in which the goal is just having sex with all the girls in the game (schoolmates of the main character), also with a child (!!!). And what about ﾂ"Princess-Maker2ﾂ", in which you are the father of a little girl you have to teach in any aspects of her personality, even the moral one? (there's not sex in PM2, but there's still the idea of ﾂ"absolute powerﾂ" of a manﾂ…Ask yourself why the videogame is not called ﾂ"PrinceMakerﾂ" and there is a girl and not a boy to teachﾂ…just because otherwise it is not ﾂ"excitingﾂ" at all! There's no sex, but still nobody can deny there's a sort of voyeuristic eroticism in see a ﾂ"tamagotchiﾂ" little girl growing -and also her body grows as well -in front of your eyes; moreover you can decide to teach her ﾂ"bad thingsﾂ", send her to nightclubs and make her become a sort of prostitute!).
What about the recent vg called ﾂ"Rule of Roseﾂ"? No sex there, but a pack of child (all girls, all schoolgirls with uniforms!) who did a lot of nasty things to another little girl (basically torture her in every possibly way, even psychologically) who just accept it with not reasons at all! And what about the ﾂ"eroticﾂ" scenes of some of these children in this videogame (like the little girl who rises her skirt in a malicious way)? Quite intolerable.
There's a sort of strange link between uniform and sex. Schoolgirls, young girls and sex. Even child and sex that could be very dangerous for mentality, IMHO. Something that is dangerously near to pedophilia in some way.
Also Western part of the world has the figure of the ﾂ"exciting teenagerﾂ" (the famous ﾂ"Lolitaﾂ" created by Nabokov), but there're some slightly differences between the 2 figures.
It seems as a schoolgirl, or a uniform-dressed young girl who act like an humble, submissive, servant sex-doll is the most exciting/transgressive fantasy for a Japanese man?!


The second sexual fantasy now. The "funny" one: Having sex or being in love of a sort of half-human/half-animal woman or creature.
I don't want to talk about videogames characters that are like these (I can't remember the name of a very famous one, that is a sort of half-white rabbit/half-girl character in a beat'em up videogame). They're a lot. Anyway I remember a Japanese guy in a videogame forum saying that she (this character) is her favourite, because she's hotﾂ"(!)
Also in ﾂ"True loveﾂ", the videogame I spoke before, one of the girl you can have sex with is a cat (!) that you saves from an heavy rain and that during the night changes itself in a cattish-girl (with also a tale!) with all the female sexual organs.
Let's talk also about a cartoon (what's the name?) in which the female character is a sort of tigerish-girl. Let's talk about a manga (sorry can't remember the name either but it's story was about 4 ancient warriors that are like the 4 elements...Fire, waterﾂ…) in which once of these warrior met a girl who is a sort of wolfish-girl and fell in love with her.
What about ﾂ"Franﾂ" (FF XII)? What about ﾂ"Cheetarahﾂ" in Katsuhito Akiyama's ﾂ"Thundercatsﾂ"? And what about ﾂ"Bagiﾂ" (ﾆ弛ﾆ樽) of the series ﾂ"Ai wa chikyū o sukuuﾂ" ? And so onﾂ…
I used to have a female cat, but if in night time she would have changed into a cattish-women (even a gorgeous one) and jumped into my bed, I would have probably screamed in horror. And anyway I couldn't never think to have sex with a creature that is more hairy than meﾂ… .

Japan is a place where people (sometimes quitely, privately) aren't afraid to explore certain things. More commonly, things like fashion, music, etc. are openly experimented with and in Tokyo this is apparent, style and entertainment there are among the most varied and eclectic in the world. And there isn't a huge religion-ized section of the populous holding everyone else back either like the neo-conservative Christian element in the US. Japan is less closed about this. For one, even the thought of getting naked and bathing with others is shocking for some westerners, yet Japanese have been doing it for hundreds of years without trouble or incidence. I've read the whole post and I don't think its a rant, but rather an observation about preferences in Japanese pornography.
Growing up as a teenager in Japan, my friends and I have come in contact
with Japanese pornography and have often discussed the differences of porn depending on the culture. We've often compared American pornography with Japanese pornography, where in American porn, on average, there is a preference for women with large breasts, men with large genitalia, etc, to a point where they actors and actresses look like barbie and ken dolls ie almost inhuman.
Japanese pornography, on average seems to involve a lot of docility and innocence. The japanese actresses are often teased or partially unwilling, and are often portrayed to be hesitant and innocent, often using the word "yamete" or stop very gently. The innocence preference can also be extended into the schoolgirl fetish. A lot of major porn actresses are dressed up like a schoolgirl at least once. I personally think its because of the innocence, and these maid/schoolgirl/nurse characters are usually hesitant to participate in sex but are seduced by the men or are betrayed by their bodies.

I think is because of general lack of sex by japanese men, because of they're so busy. The target audience seems to be lonely "otaku's" or salarymen. The salarymen are often crowded onto trains full of young schoolgirls with short little skirts on and have to work all day. That could be where the schoolgirl fantasy thing is coming from.

I haven't seen much part-human part-animal pornography but this kind of fantasy seems to have been around pretty long, as there are ukiyoe pictures of women fornicating with octopuses. I think some of the "rorikon" (Lolita complex, loosely translated) problem is
also born from men with a very rigid mentality threatened by the increasing flexibility of traditional sex roles. Men who perceive the burgeoning independence of women and males taking on traditional female responsibilities as emasculating. Looking at it from a social perspective, school girl fantasies become one of the most vulnerable, obvious targets for a psychologically threatened, massively overworked, underfulfilled population of sick men surrounded at every turn by easy temptation.

Well, you're correct in a sense, at least superficially. There is always that large element of the very vocal conservative viewing public that the networks and advertisers need to keep placated. Once the predictable 'shock' has worn off, however, both liberal and traditional media are going to be happy to keep the story going for days and months with their in depth analysis of the reaction, replay of the incident or offending visual, etc.

In other words, the religious right notwithstanding there's clearly a huge difference in the openess with which American vs. Japanese media feel free to mention sexual topics. I see it every day in the papers and on tv here. Very, very rarely if once from a mainstream Japanese outlet.

What you have to understand is that, for one, Japan has a more permissive culture when it comes to fetishes, I myself, am not ashamed to say like Ewok, to be a bit on the Echhi side... Our cultures and mores are what control how and in what ways these types of sexual, or rather paraphilias are displayed, released, and dealt with in society, and it's quite obvious that Japan has a decidedly different set of social mores than Western society--- I'm not going to judge Japan, as someone wisely said in this thread, on the pornography they produce.

I think if you go to Japan, to visit, you won't find yourself overwhelmed by overt sexual content, but you will see an adult video shop right next to a Yakitori shop, or pornographic videos in a video store where you might just rent Star Wars...

Believe it or not, most healthy men and women enjoy sex, though that may be on the decline in Japan for reasons I'm not sure of... well, procreation is definitely on the deline, but I doubt that the raw consumption of sexually-stimulating materials will ever wane. However, despite the pervasive availability of these materials, I never once thought like many have proposed here, that Japan were a nation of perverts... Perhaps like many, everywhere, some, but not all, and probably not by a majority, they are perverted in their bedrooms, but the scorn people levy at them seems to compare them to ancient Rome.

Contrast this to the United States, where Pornography has become sort of "cool" in a way... take films like Boogie Nights for example, bringing pornography above ground and into the living rooms of your average joe & jane well-adjusted healthy American. In a way it nullifies the whole idea of what exites us about the so called 'profane.' ---this I'll add, is the exact opposite of what exists in Japan...

There is an undercurrent of sexuality, but, it is kept as an undercurrent, and thus maintains its purity in forms of what could be called fetish, or profanity, but due to the mores of the country, unlike the mores say of the United States, where anything the least bit sexual, like a "wardrobe malfunction" on national television creates an uproar of disdain made by the very same law makers often caught in implicit acts the likes of which they make such public outcries about.

Personally, I think it's refreshing to know that a country doesn't feel morally doomed to engage in these types of fetishes... but that's just me...

Looks like a prime example of someone attempting to fight their own demons and make it more difficult for future generations to fall into the same pitfalls he did.
