hello all! 
i'm very happy to have found this forum and after some marathon thread reading (which will continue tonight!) i just had to sign up. i've been lurking around for the last few days reading and i tend not to bother joining or posting on forums, but i've found some really interesting and candid insights into the country so i wanted to at least have the option to.
so what the hell am i doing here?
just about to send away my JET programme application, and wanted to get back into 'japan mode' after being out of it for a year (since my studies finished). this place has absolutely eaten the few hours to myself in the evening, and so far i have noticed a lack of the usual... how can i put it? 'blind adoration for all things japanese' that i so often find on the web.
most likely because i've been reading gripe threads first because theyre more interesting to me, but hey, i hope it continues!
looking forward to contributing in whatever small way i can!
