Tech Nikon stops developing new SLR cameras

Camera heavyweight Nikon says it will no longer develop new single-lens reflex models, or SLRs. It says that's due to the popularity of both smartphones and mirrorless cameras. The Japanese precision equipment maker says prospects remain dim for restarting SLR development. Nikon started selling cameras equipped with the technology in 1959. They were popular for their ability to take high-quality photos. Together with rival Canon, Nikon won a large share of the global SLR market. But the company says sales of all cameras have been falling since the arrival of smartphones with advanced imaging capabilities. SLR sales were additionally squeezed by increasing demand for compact, lightweight mirrorless cameras.

There was a media article regarding Nikon's withdrawal of SLR development. This media article is only speculation and Nikon has made no announcement in this regards. Nikon is continuing the production, sales and service of digital SLR. Nikon appreciate your continuous support.

I went with the Canon AE-1 for some reason. It now sits in my cellar with the motor and about 5 different lens and other accessories . I replaced the Canon with the Nikon Coolpix P80 and it does all I want from it.

I almost regret getting my first camera at 7 years old. I now seem to have a million pics , negatives and slides that will someday end up on the dump , LOL. I sometimes wonder if becoming a meth addict would give me the energy to deal with them all , LOL. Without any kids , I think the people who have to deal with my house when my wife and I are gone will have a long hard clean-up project to deal with. Like my parents , I'm a packrat who throws almost nothing away. When my mom dided , we gave everything away we could and then it took 4 big dumptruck loads to clean everything out.
