The two endings -にする (-ni suru) and -になる (-ni naru) both indicate change. However, there is one big difference between them: while -になる (-ni naru) indicates something changing by itself (intransitive), -にする (-ni suru) indicates something being changed by someone or something else (transitive).

In the case of i-adjectives, the last い changes toくor くする(-ku suru).
