Hi There..

My name is Alf Magnus. Im from Norway.

I need some help to find the japanese word for "future". I have been told the word is "merai". Is this correct? Or what..

I need to be absolutely shure it's a correct translation, as this will be used as part of a new company name. The company will be importing "products" from Japan, so a good name is important of course!

In advance thanks!

Alf

According to my wife:

"mirai" is either a kind of fantasy/non-realistic future or something very far in the future. Also indicating a future for more then yourself.
Dictionary Says: Far/Distant future

"shourai" is kind of a realistic future, usually for referring to your own future.
Dictionary Says: Immediate Future

Dictionary also says: "Shourai sei" is Future potential

Hope this helps! :-)

Hi Petaris.

Yes, this givs me great help. Just what i was looking for.

Thanks man, and say thanks to you'r wife from me..

According to this, the correct one for me to use is actualy "Shourai sei" i belive.

Just to explain the word use a little.

The company who is going to use this is importing live koi fish from japan. This is for garden/koi pond use. And the company name will maby then be "Shourai sei koi"!

I don't know how much you know about koi fish. But for the customer/koi keeper, the number one thing to look for when you buy a new koi for you'r collection, is potential for growth and development in the size and quality.

Therfor my thinking is this choise of name "Shourai sei koi" or koi with potential for/in the future....

Is this a correct way to use the word?

Alf

My wife says that "shourai sei koi" sounds very weird to her but she isn't sure what would work for what you want. My guess is you would want something in that name to indicate that they will have a good/great future potential. Not sure what that might be though. Its a tough one as you don't want your name to be a sentence either.

Maybe someone else on the board can give you a better idea.

Sorry we can't be of more help! 🙇‍♂️

Ok, thanks man...

Maby "mirai koi" is a better sugestion....!?

Anyone els with a name sugestion?

Alf

"Mirai koi" sounds weird, too. Grammatically, "koi with potential for/in the future" should be "Shouraisei no aru koi/Shourai yuubou na koi", though these are also weird as a company name.

Hmz, this is not going to be eazy i understand.......

But this is of course why i ask before i just use/take a name. It's cinda imbarrassing to have a name with a wierd meaning! so hoping to get this as good as possible.

Maby someone with a sugestion for me?
