Question Need help understand this difficult dialogue- A「……う。もうやめておくよ。やっぱり、結構効いてきた」/B「おや。この程度でだらしない。まだまだ精進が必要ですな、主」

Hope someone could help me understand the correct meaning of this difficult dialogue for my level. The writer keep omit verb or subject in his writing , i'm not native so i can't be sure.

*Context: A subordinate of main character, who is a heavy drinker keep asking him to drink one more cup of liquor. Previously he just drank one cup. Previously protagonist saw A brought with her 2 bottle of liquor, one looks normal and one with red paper seal on top. The one with the red paer seal seems to be much heavier in term of alcohol. It seems A poured the normal liquor bottle for protagonist to drink.

星「ささ、主。もう一献……」

一刀(Main character)「……う。もうやめておくよ。やっぱり、結構効いてきた」

星「おや。この程度でだらしない。まだまだ精進が必要ですな、主」

一刀「うん。そっちの酒が飲めるのは、随分先になりそうだな」

星「むしろ、良い酒の方が悪酔いせぬという話もありますが」

When you said this phrase to someone, that mean : "You still have to put more efforts into a certain action/work to get good at it" ?

Yes, that's right!

In this case, 星 is scolding 一刀 for being weak to alcohol.

星 wants 一刀 not to get drunk on a small amount of alcohol.
