Need a word or phrase translated?

Thanks, Totoribe. The guy was asking her to "work" at his place, with the usual implications. Based on everything you've said, I've come up with this translation: "Keeping a single person like you won't be a problem."
Could you double-check on this?

If you don't mind me offering my opinion letianchen,

上っつら=上っ面?In this case it means "surface" or "appearence"?
Yes.

ぶちまけた方 = the actual verb is to get angry so "The method of getting angry?"
It means more of 'confessing,' or 'revealing in frustration' in this situation.

より is still used as a comparison marker. It still means 'than'. Though if reworded properly, could more closely mean 'then'. "Rather than keeping up with such appearances, you might as well tell him everything!..........Maybe you'll be able to get your true feelings through to him(while talking)."
Since I'm not too aware of the all the grammatical terms to associate with, the best I can offer is my take on the translation. I'll let Totoribe confirm this.

What is the preceding sentece? What did he say previously? 囲う doesn't (well, at least usually) just mean "to keep/provide for" without the connotation of "as a mistress".

Just two things for the translation.

思っとること全部ぶちまけた方が and アイツと本音で話した方が are in parataxis.
What なんとかなる means depends on the context, but it seems "the situation will get better".

I've been misinterpreting いいや all this time.
It seems not only you having that tendency. ;)

Thank you guys. What do you think of my translation The situation is someone is dying, and the guy speaking currently did something bad to the guy dying and feels kinda bad.

"I thought it would be better If I could talk to him as myself. Instead of having an outside image that contradicted what I felt"

ぶちまけた方 can mean confessing? Yzlot mabye you can expand on this a little bit.

btw tori san can you explain what you mean by parataxis? Also is a coincidence that this character likes saying things like
思っとる
知っとる
おうらんなかった

cheers

The guy says this:
おれの屋敷で働けよ。いい目を見させてやるぜ。
So from this, we can infer the "as a mistress" part, right?

ぶちまける as a verb means to "let everything out." It's usually used in the context of "letting out your frustrations," which can be physically, or by voicing the thoughts that frustrates the person. 方 just indicates it as a possible choice and there are alternative options. Didn't mean to include that.
Sorry, didn't mean the "i like you" kind of confessing, but the fessing up kind of confessing.

I see what you mean. Here is what happened when I asked a native on yahoo answers on the word confess. It seems like theres alot of ways

"告白する in general it is used as coming forward to tell the truth (confess). But, depending on context, it might be better to use different word.
To confess sin to a priest. 懺悔する
To confess committing a crime to police. 自白する, 自供する"

"I thought it would be better If I could talk to him as myself. Instead of having an outside image that contradicted what I felt"
That's なんとかなるかもしれんて思ったんや, not なんとかなったかもしれんて思ったんや, thus, he regrets what he did; "I thought the situation would get better by doing that (, but actually the current situation is not what I expected. I shouldn't have done that)".

おうらんなかった
He uses Kansai dialect. おうらんなかった doesn't make sense, though.

おれの屋敷で働けよ。いい目を見させてやるぜ。

He does offer "Be my mistress" to her.

Did she reply something to his words いい目を見させてやるぜ。, and her words was said before おまえひとり囲っていけるだけのものはな。? (I mean I think she said something between his words, since いい目を見させてやるぜ。おまえひとり囲っていけるだけのものはな。 doesn't make much sense.)

I don't remember おうらんなかった but I do remember おうらん I think its same as いない. Or something along these lines. Lol kansei accent sounds funny ^-^, alot cooler if you ask me.

Also I still dont get what 付き合い means after making my own or looking at yzlots translation.
Does it mean "associating myself with him" kind of?

Yea, there is a small bit. I just didn't include since I thought you only wanted proof of the offer. After the offer,

Girl: わたしは、強い男が好き。
Boy: そうだろう。おれには、力がある。 (Insert the other sentence here.)

I'll take it "Keeping a single person(as a mistress) like you won't be a problem." is still valid with that given conversation. Reason I didn't include it is, it sounded weird when worded in english. Maybe if chamberlain was used instead of mistress.

Also I still dont get what 付き合い means after making my own or looking at yzlots translation.

Yes, that's exactly it. It means the interaction between two(or more) people.

思っとること全部ぶちまけた方が and アイツと本音で話した方が perform the same function in the sentence. In this case, the latter is the rephrased one of the former.

I don't remember おうらんなかった but I do remember おうらん I think its same as いない. Or something along these lines.
That would be おらんかった(=いなかった).

I see. As I wrote previously, おまえひとり囲っていけるだけのものはな。 is not a sentence, but just the topic(the subject in this case) of the preceding sentence. It's an inversion. The normal order of the words is おれには、おまえひとり囲っていけるだけの力がある。(もの is the pronoun for 力.) Thus, the literal translation is "I have power, power enough to keep you as my mistress".

Thanks for clarifying! I underestimated the extent to which an inversion worked.

Could I ask another question? I'm not quite sure why ひとり was put in the sentence. Is it being there supposed to be a compliment/insult to the girl? Does it mean she is just one of many girls he could do this with?

Hello here is another sentence

初めは番組を編成する際の穴埋めとしてされていたのだが、番組の数が増え、。。。

this is unclear to me, ok so is 穴埋め not literally "to fill in the blanks" like " Fill in the blank of this form" rather then the english idiom "Fill in the blanks" as in "everything is now understood" If I go with the second translation then the sentence seems to make sense, but if it is literally to
fill in I have no clue what it is trying to say.

When the first television program compiled everything was clear but, the number of television programs increased..

Heres one more from the same store

日本の漫画技術は世界で一、二を争う.それを支えているのは漫画家の層の厚さである。

Few questions here. The first part confuses me.

Japanese manga art is first in the world, competing for second

Also the 支えて part.

Supporting such, the mangaka ~~ ( sou = layer/class, atsusa = thickness)
how are these even remotely related?

初め here means beginning/start. Think of 穴埋め as a "temporary measure" in this sentence. They have no plans, so they just stuck it in there, sort of like ad-libbing.

"The program was placed in there as a temporary measure in the beginning, but the program numbers(viewings) increased."

層の厚さ is a figure of speech. Think of it as meaning "a congested, overcrowded, 'layer'" Try to figure out what the layer refers to in the context.

Thanks alot!

What about the

界で一、二を争う ?

I think the second one refers to the sentence before saying that the thickness of the mangaka's books refers to how well they settle in the industry perhaps?

Also later in the store 成功を指し appears ( the context is they are talking about what type of things each countries have in terms of music and pop culture and how it is well received)

what does 指し mean here?

No. It's just a counter. It simply means "one person, you". There is no implication such like compliment or insult.

初めは番組を編成する際の穴埋めとしてされていたのだが、番組の数が増え、。。。
Just for confirmation, 穴埋めとしてされていたのだが is correct? It's not 穴埋めとされていたのだが?

Notice that it's 世界で一、二を争う, not 世界一で、二と争う.

Look up 指す in your dictionary.

Wow I cant believe I forgot a whole word dang :/

穴埋めとして放映されていたのだが

Also is the 二を争う referring two the fact that although manga is first in the first, both anime and manga are competing for such
a title?

成功を指す = indicate success?

That's 世界で(in the world)、一、二を争う(competeing the first or the second), i.e., "the best in the world".

Yes for 指す.

I came along this sentence, which is probably an expression I've never heard of. Could someone explain what it means? There are no typos in it.

そっとしといてやれ

Is it a set expression? Or if it could be separated it into words/particles, would it be read そっとし、と、いてやれ? Then it would mean "Do it quietly"?

One friend is saying how he though the concert him and the girl he is talking to was fun. The girl responds

そうね。私も思ってた以上に楽しかったわ

the other friend responds with "huh" then she says she wants to eat something.

So does this mean that sentence means "Yeah I know right. I thought of something more(以上) fun"? or is she saying "Yeah I know right. I thought it was fun too" (but then where does 以上 come into play) or does 以上 mean like "very fun" here.

Later in story girl says "本気でテレてる" so whats テレてる, can't find online :S

テレてる -> 照れている

thanks

heres another sentence

巨大ビジネス市場で生まれる競争原理が高い水準の漫画を生み出し,..

Large businesses are born in the market, the principle of competition creates manga of a high level

what do you think?

also

また、テレビアニメの過剰な表現法も魅力の一つとなっている

Whats more is, The appeal and excessive expressions in televised anime 一つとなっている

I don't get what hitotsu to natte iru has to do with the sentence.

....日本製のテレビアニメは単なるデイズニーの亜流で終わらずに、世界のトップブランドになったのである。

What does 終わらずに do here, I learned that zu+ni means without but it seems odd here.

Television anime made in japan is merely a poor imitation of disney without end (終わらずに=without end?), and so it has become the worlds top position brand

そうね is more likely "well" (or just "yeah"). It doesn't mean "I know right".

巨大ビジネス市場で生まれる競争原理が高い水準の漫画を生み出し,..

巨大ビジネス市場で生まれる modifies 競争原理. It's not a sentence but an attributive clause.
This misinterpretation also occured on 私も思ってた以上に楽しかったわ. 思ってた以上に is an adverbial phrase, and 思ってた is not the main verb "I thought".

また、テレビアニメの過剰な表現法も魅力の一つとなっている

Just for confirmation, it's not 表現法?

表現法 is the subject. なっている is the predicate. It's not テレビアニメの過剰な表現法魅力.

How do you translate 日本製のテレビアニメは/が単なるデイズニーの亜流で終わる?

I kind of wish they taught us grammar in school now. I didn't know what attributive clauses and modifiers were until I looked them up, but I still don't understand what you mean

巨大ビジネス市場で生まれる modifies 競争原理 so the former is telling me how 競争原理 is 高い水準の漫画 を生み出し?
I don't get why my translation is wrong.

It is 表現法 indeed.

For the second sentence 表現法も魅力

isnt that mo mean "and" : the appeal and the expressions, also does 一つとなっている = "become one"

日本製のテレビアニメは/が単なるデイズニーの亜流で終わる? = Television anime made in japan ends as a poor imitation of disney?

OK, what do you think about this?

Large businesses are born in the market.
巨大ビジネスが市場で生まれる。
(This is a sentence, i.e., it has the subject "large businesses" and the predicate "are born".)

巨大ビジネス市場で生まれる競争原理
the principle of competition that are born in a large business market
(This is not the sentence, but just a noun phrase.)

For the second sentence 表現法も魅力

isnt that mo mean "and" : the appeal and the expressions, also does 一つとなっている = "become one"
That's 表現法が魅力の一つとなっている with も(too/also).

魅力の一つ
one of the charms/apeals

日本製のテレビアニメは/が単なるデイズニーの亜流で終わる? = Television anime made in japan ends as a poor imitation of disney?
Roughly, yes. ずに denies the whole clause, thus, Japanese TV anime doesn't end as a merely poor imitation of Disney, but...

You sometimes just "guess" the meaning from the pieces of phrases without considering the relation of them. Pay more attention to details, for instance, the particles. Der liebe Gott steckt in Detail.
