Need a word or phrase translated?

Hello everyone, can somebody explain me, in the following dialogue 「澪が自分以外の誰かを・・・・・・」means something like "It's impossible for Mio to love somebody except herself" or could it be something like "It's impossible for Mio to love somebody except me"(From 悠馬's point of view) ? I can't grasp the meaning of 自分 here. Thank you very much for help!

悠馬:今の澪が誰かを好きになったりはしないって
鈴:何それ。オカシナことを言うね君は。"澪ちゃんは誰も好きにならない"。どこからそんあ根拠が湧いてきちゃうの?
After nearly 20 sentences later...
悠馬:どうしているよな俺は
本当に俺は鈴さんの言葉に焦りを感じていたりするのだろうか。(悠馬の思い)
悠馬:馬鹿な。そんなこと、ないって。
真紅:澪が自分以外の誰かを好きになるなんて、あり得ないって? - I think 真紅 is quoting 悠馬's words.
悠馬:・・・・・・真紅までそんあ意地悪なこと言わないでほしいんだけど

Thank you! Hmph... so the radical on the left actually looks like this 糸 and that would mean 'thread', 'string'? Semi-cursive style. And with the second one which can be 縁 ('edge'?) or 緑 ('green')... The 'green tea' is probably accurate considering this is a chinese style tea tray (工夫茶)
緑茶 indeed makes sense, but what was actually written is 縁.

Hello. I'd like some help with pronunciation instead of translation. Thus far all i've studied is hiragana and the opening chapters of katakana. Could someone please share a rule with me in regards to the way certain vowels are pronounced when next to one another. For example the 'e' in tsukue. It sounds strange to me unless u don't pronounce the 'e'. Does it sound like tsuku or tsuku-e ? Don't intend to waste time on something so basic but
i can't find the pronunciation anywhere. Ty (also my apologies if i asked in the wrong thread)
It's more close to "ts'kue". (The first "u" is devoiced or pronounced weakly.) You can hear the pronunciation on Google Translate.

"その身に刻め"

A phrase often heard when someone sends a sword or something that cuts at an enemy.

Is it just an empowering phrase that essentially means "cut them down"? (Cause I just find the way it is said in Japanese interesting to say the least).

刻む doesn't mean "to cut/mince" here. It's "to engrave". ("Engrave your sin in your body", for instance.)

What does '感動的なワンシーン' mean in 'その感動的なワンシーン逃してしまうかも知れないから'?

ワンシーン means 'one scene' as far as I can tell. Does it imply an emotional moment in ones life such as a marriage?

緑茶 indeed makes sense, but what was actually written is 縁.

You are right, there is no doubt. I've looked at the pictures of other tea trays that have these characters written on them and it's the same on all of them, with direct translation 縁 means 'edge' so: 'edge tea'? If anybody understands this please reply. Thank you.

Baka,

ワンシーン like you say is usually just 'one scene' as in a movie.
"その感動的なワンシーン逃してしまうかも知れないから"
Because you might miss the emotional scene/part

lightsleeper,

缘 in Chinese (sorry can't type traditional Chinese on my computer) or 縁 in Japanese means some type of connection or predestined affinity. So it can either be the name of a tea-house, or it can mean having an affinity or some type of connection with tea.

Oh yeah. I should have realized that with the に right?

So when said alone as a phrase like that, it encompasses the idea of engraving something into someones body as a punishment? And it is somewhat figurative in the context of said right before a slashing/cutting based attack?

The latter. 自分 refers to 悠馬 himself. (And yes, 真紅 said it from the point of view of 悠馬.)

Yeah, を is used for "to cut/mince".

Exactly!

Context. :) Thank you, I may start now reading their novels to get to the point.

I don't understand 倫理普及に取り組んで参りました。

in

早くから県内全地域で倫理普及に取り組んで参りました。

I know te mairu is the honorific of te iru and guess that 倫理普及 is the diffusion of ethics and know that torikomu means, but cant put the whole thing together. Any help would be much appreciated.

You're mistaken on the nature of 参る. It is the humble form of 行く. Try again with that.

Can you help me with 普及に取り組んで?

I believe you were already on the right track with that one. I think the best way to look at the に is as if it meant "with". Perhaps you're having trouble with ~ていく / ~てくる?

If I'm not entirely incorrect here...actually nevermind, rather than go with my own brain (which has been wrong a lot lately), I'm just going to give you the definitions and some examples from my grammar dictionary:

~てくる means "come about; grow; come to; begin to"
Example:
私はコンピュータが少し分かってきました。
"Now I have begun to understand computers."

~ていく means "go on ~ing; continue; grow; become"
Example:
これからは寒くなっていきます。
"It will get colder (and continue to be that way) from now on."

倫理普及 - "spread" might be better here, although either way I think it's hard to get a non-clunky translation in English. Presumably the context is some sort of "moral education" or similar public campaign . For this particular use of 取り込む, see also these examples which should clarify (link to ALC).

You're basically right on both counts.
However, ~て参る cannot be used as a replacement for the ~てくる construction, in the sense of "begin to/come about". ~て参る will always be referring to the person speaking, whereas ~てくる could either be referring to the person speaking, or it could be the grammatical construction you just listed.

Watched a commercial for the new animal crossing for Nintendo 3DS.

「どうぶつの森も、暖かくなってきました。満開の桜の下でお花見、友達の村に集合して、・・・」
Animal crossing is getting warm too. Flower viewing under the cherry blossoms in full bloom, gathering in friends' villages...

Thats what I understood. 今まで、いいですか。also, what does きままなせいかつ mean?

~てまいる can be used also when the doer is not the speaker, thus, これから寒くなってまいります is correct. In this case, まいる is considered a polite expression (丁寧語) of いく/くる, not a hamble expression (謙譲語).

単に「行く・来る」を丁重にいう場合。このときにも謙譲の気持ちは残るので、敬うべき人の動作には用いない。現在、「先生もまいられますか」のような言い方は適切でないとされる。「私の家に弟が―・るはずです」「列車が―・ります」「雨が降って―・りました」
参る(まいる)の意味 - goo国語辞書

As in the explanation I quoted above, this まいる can't be used for a superior's action, except when he/she is an inner-group member of the speaker and the speaker is talking to an outer-group member.
e.g.
前回まで部長の○○(the name of the division manager)が担当してまいりましたが、…
(You can use this expression even if you are a subordinate of the division manager.)

Yes for your translation.
きままなせいかつ: a carefree life

Thanks toritoribeさん
Not sure if I forgot that or never knew it in the first place..always best to assume the latter!

Heard the expression 「あの街でおいしいお寿司が安くで食べられます。」you can eat delicious sushi in that city for cheap.

I was wondering if someone could explain this ~ku de thing to me. よろしくお願いします。

That's grammtically wrong. 安く食べられます is correct.

Arigatou gozaimashita!

I saw it on an episode of Waku Waku Japanese lessons. I saw the video on my ipad. However, when I just watched it again, it turns out if I'm watching it on a laptop, they've corrected their error in-video by shoving a textbox over the 'de'.

Hello, I wonder if anyone could help me read and understand the title of the last Kan Mikami (三上寛) album: 馬銜っ主.

If I understand correctly, 馬銜 can be read in two ways: くつわ or はみ, and means 'bit' (as in, the thing they put in horses' mouths, and to which the reins are attached).
主 is more well known of course, 'lord', 'boss', 'chief', 'main', etc. It also has various readings, but judging by the sokuon before it, I'm guessing here it is しゅ.
My guess is that 馬銜っ主 is pronounced くっしゅ, but I would like to be sure, and if someone can offer a decent translation or interpretation of this title, that would be nice as well.
Thank you!

PS. The album I'm referring to is this one:

お洒落なペンションから家族的な民宿まで様々な宿種がありシーンに合わせ選べる魅力エリア。

I am having some problems with the above sentence, particularly with the last bit

I have "a magical area chosen to fit the scene and that has varying accommodation ranging from stylish pensions to homely dwellings"

I am no sure how to translate シーンに合わせ選べる
