Do you mean you're going to translate that idiomatic/proverb-like sentence?

判る is rooted in the kanji for 'judge' and thus relates to the capacity to differentiate or discriminate between similar things, surroundings or environments. Generally in the context of a kitty having experienced or "known" the outdoors (what it feels like to freely roam, a honed instinct of survival on the streets etc) you would use 知っている.

My attempt

猫を知る者は暗き路地裏を知る。
Neko wo shiru mono wa kuraki rojiura wo shiru.
(lit. One who knows cats, knows black and dark back alleys.)

It seems to me to be close to a Japanese proverb 蛇の道は蛇 "Ja no michi wa hebi".

I can't believe you are not a native Japanese speaker.😌

I've often thought the same of you regarding English.

Hello,

I think I have problems with particle in this sentence:

彼はおたくでした。志望大学某私大゛漫画学科゛という彼漫画の振り仮名を丸暗記しているため.

Talking about a boy who learns furigana using mangas, and then discovering that there are lots of mistakes in these.

My guess:

He was an otaku. For memorizing furiganas in mangas, he talks (talked? because of previous deshita ?) about "mangas courses" of (given by?) a certain private school in (??) the university of his choice.

Thank you for your help.

It's not 丸暗記するため but 丸暗記しているため, i.e., ため means "because".

いう doesn't mean "to say" here. という explains what kind of person he is, thus, 志望大学は/が某私大の゛漫画学科゛(だ) modifies 彼.

OK, so from what you're saying :

Because he is memorizing furiganas of mangas... am I right for this part?

Then I'm lost. Why talking about university of his choice and mangas courses?
He is called: the boy "who takes mangas courses " in this private school by the university of his choice?

Lost...

hello Elisabeth,

what it feels like to freely roam, a honed instinct of survival on the streets etc
Yes

The "wich" is a person who knows etc.. , 知っている (shitte iru ?)
"kitty, kitty... it depends the person" :-)

It seems to me to be close to a Japanese proverb 蛇の道は蛇 "Ja no michi wa hebi".

the snake way / One devil knows another ...
Yes too

And : at night , all cats are grey/black
(not a colorimetric affirmation)

猫を知る者は、暗き路地裏を知る。

黒 is not available for the back alleys ?

Next week's episode title is out.

驕傲的戰士

Can you guys translate this one for me?

EDIT: I think I figured it out, but hopefully I'm right.

驕傲の戦士 (Kyogo no senshi) "A Warrior's Pride" ?

Do you want to say the cat is/looks also black?

Do you want to say the cat is/looks also black?

At my mind, that happens at night,so the cat is black, the back alleys are poorly lit, dark, and not always well attended (like Elizabeth said : instinct of survival on the streets) . But not necessarly, it's just an interpretation .

At night , all cats are grey/black
you can be confused with someone else
you can be someone else (you will not be recognized)

Please make your idea more clear before asking us to translate it. No one knows your own image that is only in your mind. So, what is the EXACT English sentence you want to translate???

Thank you Toritobe! Seems so obvious now...
Not so much. :) The first time through I read it correctly and then because this it seemed so odd and we really are talking about B級カルチャー in オタクの愛好家.... hmmmm....maybe it was afterall 彼を 「漫画学科」という愛称で呼ばれた 。 (笑い 😌

---------- Post added at 11:08 ---------- Previous post was at 09:25 ----------

I have no idea why this was chosen as the expression of an idea because all cats most definitely do not look either black, grey or the same in the dark, but as a variants of this proverb "all cats are black at night ; at night all cats are gray" in Japanese might be "Abata mo ekubo" (To the partial eyes of a lover, pockmarks seem like dimples meaning not being able to distinguish between important choices or situations). It could also have the connotation we are all the same underneath despite how we look on the outside. :?

So I have:
あまり深く考えないでコメントして下さい、お父さんも英語ができたらいいんだけど?

First part,
I am thinking it means. "Don't think too deeply and just comment"

Second part I am not sure. Something in the realm of "although it would be good if dad could use english?"

Thank you toritoribe. Looks like i don't suck as much as i thought. well for this aspect of learning.

驕傲の戦士 (Kyogo no senshi) "A Warrior's Pride" ?

I was thinking 傲慢な戦士 ("an/the arrogant warrior").
