Need a word or phrase translated?

That is a bit inconsistent however, that is how it is on the book I'm reading.

Ah, I see. So, the problem is on the author's/editor's side. I believe that it must be 読点 "、" ( and not 句点 "。") put on the sentence/clause end, i.e., the two sentences should be connected like as 日本はいじめられまくっていた、具体的には、…迫られていたのです. Thus, いじめられまくっていた is originally connected to のです at the next sentence end.

あるところ (或る所) = 有個地方 = an unspecified location
おりました (居りました) = いました = いた = 有 (I think) = (there) was

So it's "a long time ago, there once was a very cute girl (in a certain place)." I've got to say, that あるところに part seems unnecessary. At the very least, it is in English, and I'm not quite sure how to put it. It seems better to leave it out all together. If the Chinese is wrong or confusing just ignore it (corrections would be welcome, though, should you feel so inclined). 😌
Thanks Glenn! You're right, that is a pretty random thing to put ( the あるとこるに). The book itself is in Japanese, just Hiragana though. I'm putting the Kanji in wherever I can.
I'm battling through the next few pages:
おばあちゃんに もらった あかい ずきんを いつも かぶっていたので あかずきんちゃん、とよばれていました。
Would it be translated more accurately as:
Since she was always wearing the red hood, Grandma called her Little Red Riding Hood.
or
Grandma had/gave her a red hood, so she was always called Little Red Riding Hood.

The next page says:
あるひのこと。
おばあちゃんが かぜで ねこんでいるの。 ひとりで おみまいに ゆけるかしら

Neither the dictionary nor the translator is picking the blue stuff up.

(literally)Since she was always wearing a red hood she got from Grandma, she was called "Little Red Riding Hood".

The clause おばあちゃんにもらった is modifying ずきん.

あるひのこと。
おばあちゃんが かぜで ねこんでいるの。 ひとりで おみまいに ゆけるかしら

I suppose that that line is Akazukin-chan's mother's words.

(Your) Grandma is in bed with a cold. Are you able to visit her (to see how she is) alone?

ねこむ
ねこむ【寝込む】

2 〔病床につく〕take to one's bed; be sick in bed

母は悲しみのあまり寝込んでしまった
Overcome with grief, my mother fell ill.
彼は風邪で寝込んでいた
He was in bed with a cold.

の: a female sentence final particle, as same function as "explanatory の/ん".

お: a polite/honorific prefix

:clueless:
This いく is not a verb meaning "to go" but an auxiliary verb.

Usage
  • With the verbs :
    • いく iku: Can express continuous action or a change of state in the future.
Japanese verb conjugation - Wikipedia

Thus, はしって、さっていきました literally means "went away running".

Could I get a little help with this phrase?

...バレット
余ってるなあ

It's something like "Bullet...remain."
The part I'm confused about is whether or not "余ってるなあ" is negative. So is it 'too many bullets' or 'no bullets left' or 'not enough bullets'?

Thanks!

It's affirmative or "too many". The negative "no bullets left/not enough bullets" is 余ってないなあ.

How do you say, "to go up(stairs)" and "to go down(stairs)"? Or maybe "to ascend" and "to descend"? For some reason i never learned this words, but it'd probably be good to know... And I can't really find which word would be more common, and which situations they're used.

I found 上る(のぼる)/上がる(あがる) but I don't know which is used more/in which situations.

And also for 下る(くだる)/下がる(さがる).

What I'm looking mostly to say is like "I'm going downstairs to eat.", aka "I'm going from the top floor to the bottom floor...", for example.

If both are used frequently, could you please give me some example sentences? Thanks!

Right.

階段のぼる/あがる
階段おりる/くだる

上/二階あがる
下/一階おりる

This を indicates the location of the action as same as the one in 道を歩く.

I guess that's why you can say 階段を上がる. I didn't even think about that.

Hello, I need help with this line:
受験に効く神様だかなんだか知らないけどお高くとまりすぎだ

I think I understand the first part of it ( "I don't know if God can help me pass the exam" or something like that) but I don't know how to translate "お高くとまりすぎ".
I know "お高く留まる" means to put on airs, but I don't know how that fits into that sentence.

The line is from a guy who is going to a shrine.

Thanks.

~だかなんだか知らないけど is a kind of set phrase meaning ~なんだろうけど/~みたいだけど/~かもしれないけど.

受験に効く神様だかなんだか知らないけど
I know/heard that the God of this shrine is effective in passing exams or something, but...

Thank you. Do you know what "お高くとまりすぎだ" means in that sentence?

You already got the answer.;-)

お高くとまりすぎだ
he(the God) puts on airs too much.

I suppose the speaker was talking about the structure of the shrine(stately but too much formal or like that).
