The ん here gives the sentence an explanatory feeling. It kind of means "because". That sentence is literally "it's that I want to go to Japan". Maybe in the sentence before the friend asked "why are you studying Japanese?". Hence, to explain why he's studying Japanese he replies "it's that/it's because I want to go to Japan".

I would say "Nan da to omoimasuka" if you're just interested in the other person's opinion.

"Dou omoimasu ka" is more like what do you think of or about something....

OK, thanks. I must just be sleepless (I'm sure of it, actually). That makes sense. This is the usage for 何だと思うかい explained in Kenkyuusha's Lighthouse E-J dictionary. 意外なことを切り出すときの前置きの文句。Maybe that's a very limited usage.

Or maybe "It wasn't that I was telling you what to do" would be a better choice if I want him to change habits.

My intent is not at all to say "You should study the way I do" など という風に言いたかったんですが、細かい文法の間違いはあるかもしれませんね。

たとえば、この場合は、「したほうがいい」じゃなくて、「しなさい」など使ったらよかったのかな。。

Actually, Elizabeth was just trying to help you through the medium of Japanese, rather than English. She pointed out your spelling mistake. The correct spelling is kanojo. Then she said that yes, indeed, you were correct.

Why not use "suki"?

watashi wa terebi wo miru no ga suki desu.

As Elizabeth pointed out earlier, it is not "konoju" but rather "kanojo".

"desu" does not come after verbs. To make the sentence polite, "suru" becomes "shimasu".

Also, your sentence currently means something like "She cooks what (she) likes."

Try using the ~ga suki construction and see what you come up with!

Your sentence as it stands means something like, "my father is a car that I like."
