I've started writing a blog, and at the end I always think of random irrelevant things I want to add. But I don't know if people normally do that, let alone if there's a specific term for it. I've been using そして...

I have two questions. First off, I'm wondering what "wolf" is in kanji, I don't have the characters installed so I'm wondering if someone could put a picture/cropped screenshot up. Second, I'm painting this like a vertical banner, but I have no idea which way kanji banners start from (top or bottom), and I don't want to mess up (painting it on something expensive). So if anyone could help me out with those two things I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Having typed 'wolf' and 'kanji' into yahoo, the first link that came up was this one: Japanese Kanji - 狼 wolf

Are you painting more than one kanji? Most Japanese writing goes from the top left, downwards, then moves over to the next column to the left and goes down again.

Thanks, that's the kind of thing I was looking for. I've never actually heard にしては used, but it sounds like a much more common word, or at least a word with a greater range of uses, in the dictionary I am using. I wish there was a dictionary that had a word's usage score relative to other words with identical/similar meanings, or described exactly the kind of situations one word (or grammatical phrase) was used in over another. Obviously that kind of dictionary would be tough to write, especially since usage differs according to area and person, but I think it would be a useful supplement to the normal way of picking up usage, ie encountering material time after time after time in real situations....

The closest I've seen to what you're describing is one I use called "Kodansha's Basic English-Japanese Dictionary"

Entries are not rated or scored per se but there are a vast number of examples and many with similar words and expressions "stacked against" each other in a ranking of 'appropriate usage' (or not). The standard of evaluation is naturally very subjective, having been disconfirmed by native speakers on numerous occasions. As some amazon reviewers complained, for beginners this depth also comes at the expense of scope with many, many common words excluded.

On the other hand, as a supplement that can rule out at least some incorrect ways of speaking with fairly in depth scope notes on nuances of each vocab item it may be just what you're looking for. :emoji_nerd:

This is an sentence from a Natsume Souseki story. What confused me about the sentence is the "冷たい露の滴る、白い花びら" portion.

冷たい露の滴る花びら = Is this what it basically breaks down to? (The flower petals of the cold drop of dew). I haven't seen this type of sentence as far as I know in my level of study before.

Finally,

白い花びらに接吻した。 The "ni" here isn't indicating "on" but merely that he/she performed some kind of action to the flower petals. Thanks to anyone who can clear this up. I've been going over this for two months now, and this is one of the sentences in that story that I can't understand on my own.

Guys please help me.. I'm a newbie here..
I first visited Japan last year, came back home this year, April..
I met a Japanese guy, and he became my boyfriend 3 months before I came back home.. we got along easily because he understands my mother language.. so if there's some words I don't understand, he will explain it my language.. I can understand Japanese a little but I'm really bad at speaking.. since that was just my first visit to japan, I'm still learning Japanese.. now we have constant communication through phone, he calls regularly..

Here's the problem..
He told me that I must learn Japanese as soon as i can, and be good on it because he told his parents about me, and when I come back he will then introduce me to them.. Sometimes we argue about my Japanese.. because I'm really bad..
I'm returning in Japan next week.. and he will be fetching me at the airport..
can you help me with some lines.. because I want to impress him and surprised him like "oh your learning your Japanese now!"

Please guys.. I have got a sister in japan but I'm too shy to ask her teach me those sweet lines.. you know...

Once again, unless someone comes up with something more romantic or corrects me, I believe you can say that.

"---(your company's name） no John Smith to moushimasu. ishida sama to 11ji ni oyakusoku wo sasete itadaite orimasu. oide ni narare masu de shou ka?"

short version,
「１１時にishida様とお約束させていただいております、John Smithと申します」
"11ji ni ishida sama to oyakusoku sasete itadaite orimasu, John Smith to mousimasu"

Geez...how is a Japanese supervisor expected to act ? Taking on that challenge as an outsider must be enough to dump any sane person into the depths of despair. :emoji_frowning2:

At least marrying into a foreign culture you can recognize the problems, try to iron out any differences and make the relationship work. But as a boss, the employees must be as uncertain of your expectations as you are being in the role just as you probably have no idea what they are honestly thinking.

There are at least a few others here, FrustratedDave, in a similar situation that I'm sure can feel your despair more personally....you may want to start a separate thread (if not forum....:emoji_blush just for them. ::emoji_blush:

Although your situation sounds difficult to replicate exactly, DoctorP is one that comes to mind as perhaps the most regular foreign supervisor poster these days. I think he has about 75 employees. But yeah, start a thread and you may get a lot of strong advice from us minions on the receiving end or at the least suggestions of other forums that specialize in this population....

～といいんですが sounds rather formal because of です.

～といいなあ or ～かなあ are more casual ways to say it.
The latter sounds more wishful wish.

なにかいいことが起こるといいなあ。
なにかいいことが起こらないかなあ。
