How about both? I'll be sending this to different people.
Oh okay.
Um, the literal translation would sound kind of unnatural in Japanese, so I changed a little bit to make it sound more natural. The following is how I'd say it in Japanese at least.
Then again, even though I asked you if you wanted the formal one and casual one, there can be tons of other ways to express your "thank you". So please take it as just an example. (Hopefully you can get another good example to say it from other kind people here, like epigene-san, undrentide-san and kyoko-san! ^_^)
"I really enjoyed my time in Japan. Thank you for all the help you provided!"
-Very formal one (to elder people)
日本での滞在は、とても楽しかったです。大変お世話になりました。どうもありがとうございました。
Nihon de no taizai wa, totemo tanoshikatta desu. Taihen osewa ni narimashita. Doumo arigatou gozaimashita.
Literal: I enjoyed staying in Japan. You helped me a lot. Thank you very much.
or,
おかげさまで、日本ではとても楽しく過ごせました。いろいろとありがとうございました。
Okagesama de, Nihon de wa totemo tanoshiku sugosemashita. Iroiro to arigatou gozaimashita.
Literal: I spent a good time in Japan. Thank you very much for what you've done for me.
-Friendly one(to someone who's younger than you or similar age)
日本はすごく楽しかったよ。いろいろとありがとう!
Nihon wa sugoku tanoshikatta yo. Iroiro to arigatou!
Literal: (Staying in)Japan was really fun. Thanks a lot for everything (you did for me)!
(I'm not very good with English so literal translation may sound strange...)
Oh well. Let's see if anyone else comes up with better idea.
どなたかいいアイデアありませんか?^^;
