I think 理解 is perhaps better for this type nuance, if you mean have a fuller and deeper awareness or appreciation of a person or thing than わかる。Glenn said:It's just わかる.
"Who will understand me?" -> 誰に私が分かるかな (well, it depends on what you mean by that)
「せい」と「おかげさまで」のほかの違いですが、せいの場合、修飾語は必要がありますが、undrentide said:You can use おかげ in a negative way (in sense of meaning, sarcasm):
The example you mentioned
Example: I failed the test, thanks to you !
can be translated to
きみのおかげで試験に失敗したよ。
Normally we use ~のせいで instead of ~のおかげで when one get negative result (in the above example, きみのせいで試験に失敗した) but when using ~のおかげで the sentence is with heavy sarcasm.
Example: I passed the test, no thanks to you !
I cannot think of negative expression of おかげ, what might be close is
試験に合格したけれど、別にきみのおかげじゃない。
I passed the test, but not that with your help/nothing to do with you/it's nothing I should thank you for...etc.

I wonder if Elizabeth san means while okagesamade stands on its own,
seide and okagede always need modifier (___ no sei/okage)?
When saying "okagesamade", I'm not sure to whom I'm feeling grateful.
Those kind of expressions makes me feel that Japanese is really an interesting language - even for a Japanese!![]()

けれど、厳密に言うと、「おかげで」の場合にも、必ず「~の」が
必要ではないんじゃないかなあ。。。
Ok, due to that I was able to figure it out. I appreciate it. However, I came across this sentence:Glenn said:Jumbi o shimashita -- I made the preperations.
Jumbi o shite arimasu -- The preparations are done.
'Shite nakatta' or 'Shitakunakatta' are perfectly fine, but shita nakatta is not properly grammatical.Fuumei said:Ok, due to that I was able to figure it out. I appreciate it. However, I came across this sentence:
"anata to hanashi ga shita nakatta". I'm assuming this is practically the same form as "-te aru" except it has "shita" instead of "shite" and "nakatta" instead of arimasen deshita. (I haven't seen arimasen deshita used yet in the -te aru form)
Am I correct?

あんたの愛の真実は? The truth (or sincerity) of your love is ?
許せない!!! Unforgivable!!!
Ah yes, that is 真.I know Chinese words. ^^Glenn said:Whew, that makes me feel better about not being able to make it out!
The only thing I can think of is 真, but it doesn't quite look like the 真 in 真実.

Could anyone help me translate this two verses of Sugawara no Michizane's poem:
秋風 の吹き上げに立てる白菊は、
花かあらぬか波の寄するか
akikaze no fukiage ni tateru shiragiku
hana ka aranu ka nami no yosuru ka
I'm not sure if I romanized it good (i mean spaces), especially this second versI know what every word mean (except one), but I can't get a sense of whole sentences (especially the second one
)
I dont know the meaning of this "aranu" word... Could someone explain me?
Anyway, thanks for any help![]()
