Measurement of rice: 石(こく)as in 一万石Kennin said:Hi there... another stoopit question from Kennin :emoji_flushed:
A man's yearly need for rice was measured in "koku" or "kōku" or "kokū" or "kōkū" until the Meiji revolution, I guess.
How's that in kanji please? And which hebonshiki rōmaji is correct please?
According to one of the sources I have (can't remember exactly which one, though) a "koku/kōku/kokū/kōkū" was also a unit of time, being approximately two hours, in the Edo Jidai.
Same question here:
How's that in kanji please? And which hebonshiki rōmaji is correct please?
Pistol is "pisutoru" which I still don't see as much, at least in the news, asBuntaro said:Bruce,
Use the word "pistol" (peesutoru).
KrazyKat said:How about: "I'll just say it but, it doesn't really have to be that nice of a room, you know. Anyway, as long as I can sleep then its fine." Although my translation skills still have a long way to go.
So kenjuu is a handgun and teppou would be a rifle? I'm confused about what these three names mean.Pistol is "pisutoru" which I still don't see as much, at least in the news, as
拳銃 (kenjuu) or if you're looking for a regular sized gun, that would be 鉄砲 (teppou).
ah thank you."Kenjuu" is handgun.
"Teppou" is firearms in general, used chiefly to point to those used in the old days and not the modern types.
There are many terms used to refer to firearms.
I think "jyuu" is the most "generic" term for guns in general, especially handguns.
From the industrial perspective, firearms are collectively called "jyuu-ki."
yes it does thank you. I guess it would be a small factory. Maybe 50 people in the shop and another 30 or so in other parts."Factory" on a large scale (such as for building cars) is called "koujou."
"Factory" on a smaller scale (suggested but not necessarily true) is "seizou-jo."
So, a gun factory can be (1) jyuu-ki koujou or (2) jyuu-ki seizou-jo.
More casually, it can be called (1) jyuu no koujou or (2) jyuu no seizou-jo.
This all depends on the type of manufacturing operation you work in.
Hope it helps!
