lol, that's a blast from the distant past. Also "I'm trying to start one budou" sounds a bit funny - I doubt you count "budous" as one budou, two budou - it's more a general term I think - it doesn't really need any counter.
Pox's "-tai to omotteimasu" is a great formula to use. You soften the "want" by saying "I'm thinking". You hear that a lot, especially in formal situations, or "omoimasu".
The "-you to shiteimasu" formula for "trying to" is more like when you are actually in the middle of doing something, rather than for announcing your future intentions. Like "I'm trying to send an email (but I haven't yet succeeded in doing so)"
