Need a word or phrase translated?

how would i say "in this essay i will focus on answering 3 questions"

i've got この作文で3つの問題を答えるのに集中する. is that ok?

I think this is OK as a literal translation,
but if you have more context, please post that.

This means you have deliberately suzuki frozen in a freezer
for 2 years for cooking.

これだと、"わざと"二年間も冷凍庫にスズキを入れておくという意味になると思うのですが、
そういう料理なんでしょうか?自分は料理がヘタクソなのでわかりません。 :emoji_thinking:

Btw, When I need a dictionary, I always use this online Eng-Jpn dictionary.
http://www.alc.co.jp/index.html
Is this site good or bad from the viewpoints of native or near-native English speakers?

Yeah, I don't like to cook either, so I kept saving and saving not realizing it was losing any freshness. :p But maybe しています is better than しておく。

その上で、日本人は新鮮な魚介類を食べなれていますね。:D

あ、そういう意味でしたか。
「二年間保存しています。」(二年間保存しっぱなしのままのスズキがあります。)
の方が正しいですね。

ありがとう、Poxさん!
表現としては、「早く遅れなくてごめんなさい」がありますか? :sorry:

それと特に「日本人の友達に聞きたいんです」という訂正についてですが、
「日本人の友達」を使うことはほとんどないと思ったんです。「日本人友達」の(に?)方がずっと自然ですか。 :p

Hi everybody!

I have been asked to make sense of these sentences, which are supposed to be in Japanese:

~~

Na ishi na teco semeru.

Ma naooki yiatsu.

Ka ooke.

Ayomo.

Shinaii!

~~

I cannot make any sense of these sentences at all. Perhaps they are from a dialect? Or maybe this is just jibberish. Anyway, if anyone can make any sense of this, please feel free to share what you can.

I have no idea what it's supposed to mean, but the second I saw "Na ishi na teco semeru," I became suspicious as to whether it was anything at all.

I need a correct translation for:

"Your music has moved/inspired so many people, myself included. I hope you keep playing for a very long time."

I'm sending this message to a band, and I want to make sure I write it correctly, just in case they happen to read it. ^^

or

***(enter that band's name)の作る曲は、私を含め、
沢山の人の心を動かしてきました。
これからもずっと音楽を続けていくことを願っています。

What does each of them mean? Sorry, I'm sure they're right... but the Japanese student in me wants to see if I can make sense of them. ^^;

they both mean the same thing. if you look carefully, pox has simply replaced あなた達 with ***(enter that band's name).

so literally translating, to help you give an idea of the words used, it would be:

your songs (that you make) have, myself included, moved the hearts of many people. (from now on as well) i hope you continuing making music.

I was wondering how I would say/write the school subjects out in japanese?

Science, Social Studdies, Gym/PE, Art, Drama, Math, ((English/French (language) Just...英語 and フランス語 ne?))

Or what ever they cal them... maybe it's not exact or even colose translation ne? Thank~

こんにちは Poxさん!

「早く送れなくてごめん」の間違いですね。 私もエラーに気が付いたのはずっと後になって
からだったが、それを修正する時間がありませんでした。

「(返事を)遅れなくてごめん、遅くなってごめん」など状況によっては、こういう場合もありえるでしょう。

不注意ミスいが多いとますます文章がわかりづらくなります。
これからも送信前に一度内容を確認しなければなりません。 :sorry:

多分たくさんの文法の間違いなどがあると思いますが、言いたい事がわからないので直しようがないです。 日本語として分かる少数の言葉は。。。

Semeru could be blame or attack ; ooke is bucket ;
乃至 【ないし】 (conj) from .. to; between .. and; or.

NanakiXIII,

"You've completed a video game."

I would say, "Geemu ga owarimashita."

NanakiXIII said:
Could someone tell me what verb is used to say that you've completed a video game?
I think the most common way to express this is with the loanword クリア(clear)する.

昨日の夜やっと(ゲーム名)をクリアしました!
Kinou no yoru yatto (name of game) o kuria shimashita!
Last night I finally finished (name of game).

とか
(or...)

新しいゲームを買う前に今やってるのをクリアしたいな。
Atarashii geemu o kau mae ni ima yatteru no o kuria shitai na.
I want to finish the game I'm playing now before I buy a new one.

...or something like that.

(「ゲームが終わりました」 (geemu ga owarimashita) just sounds to me like "the game ended." Like with the same nuance as something like "the movie ended, so we left the theater." It doesn't really carry the connotation of 'accomplishment' that comes into play when you talk about 'completing' a game.)

ええ、
「(返事を)送れなくてごめん」や「(返事が)遅くなってごめん」は、状況によっては使います。
というか、しょっちゅう使います。
自分も誤変換や「て・に・を・は」のミスは数え切れないくらいしました。

誰かの願いが叶うころ

I think this translates as either

"Someone who makes wishes comes true"

or

"Someone to make my wishes come true"

Can anyone confirm / deny

Many thanks.

ちなみに、「状況によっては使います」と「況によっては、こういう場合もありえる」の意味はほとんど同じだと思います。でも「ありえる」はすこし改まった感じがすれば、友達同士ではあまり使いませんのかな?

I would say, "the time when someone's wish was/is granted."

ところで、お見合い結婚に賛成ですか?反対ですか?

お見合い結婚という選択肢があっても良いと思います。

Does this strike anyone as an odd reply, or more the typical Japanese evasiveness ? :?

I don't think it's odd, or particularly "evasive" either. In fact, I might say the same thing if I were posed the question. I wouldn't agree with a _forced_ arranged marriage, but for a person who would like to get married, but hasn't had much luck with romantic relationships, I don't see anything wrong with the concept of お見合い existing as a possible alternative. I mean, you still get to meet the person and get a feel for whether or not the two of you might be compatible.

In any event, I don't think the above response response is "evasive" so much as an honest answer that recognizes that it's not such a black-and-white, agree-vs.-disagree sort of issue.

Yeah, I just considered the offhand tone of "dochira demo ii," "Oh well, either one is fine" or "It's good to have a choice" a little surprising.

Hmm... This is purely subjective, but I don't see anything "offhand" or "oh well" about it. It's not like the person responded to a question of whether s/he would personally prefer a 恋愛結婚 or an お見合い結婚 with "Who cares?" -- that might surprise me a bit too.

But in this case, the person was just asked whether s/he agrees or disagrees with arranged marriages (in general), and s/he responded basically that, (for those people for whom it might not be such a bad idea) they should have that option. That doesn't really strike me as a particularly surprising response.
