Need a Kanji Translated? Just ask!

Hello, I have a friend with a torii gate on the property that is believed to have been imported from Japan many decades ago. The gate is approximately 10 feet tall. I was wondering if anybody could translate the characters carved into it. It is difficult to capture them in a picture, but hopefully the pics I uploaded will show them adequately. Thank you!

I guess the year wasn't as clear as I thought it was on this small screen....Oops.

I wonder if there is any inscription on the other column. I would expect to find the name of the shrine and/or the name of whoever paid for the torii.

I'd love to know the story behind it leaving Japan, including how the shipping was carried out.

You can't find them because whoever did them messed them up terribly.

That's supposed to be 愛友.

Or just a single kanji 愛 "love" embroidered by someone who really doesn't know the character.

thank you! the only ones i figured out were sumaho and maso but i was super confused since they are katakana when taken apart.

Hi! I can't quite make sense of that sentence because I don't know this one kanji (here circled). I've tried writing it into online dictionaries with no results. Does anyone know it?

That would be 直ぐに ("immediately"). You can easily find it using kanji component search (as offered by e.g. jisho.org): click 十 and 目 and you get 直 as the first result. Alternatively, you can use the KanjiTomo OCR-based dictionary.
