Yeah, that's right. 展 is often used as 展示会. (e.g. 美術展, 物産展, 国際ラン(= orchid)展)

Thanks for your response! I don't think that's it though, there appears to be an い after the character (in hindsight, I probably should have included it in the picture).

That's what it looks like to me too, but I can't find any kanji that look like that in any of the dictionaries I use, so it doesn't make sense to me. Maybe it's a simplified version of something else.

There aren't a whole lot of phrases that I know of that fit the context, so my best guess would be 熱い, since it looks more similar to what was written than 痛い does.

Hello,
I take an interest in Japanese history and I came across a drawing taken from the cover of the book Musashi and I was curious as to what the Kanji means.

I've tried an online Japanese dictionary but it is difficult without being able to cut and paste the text. I believe that part of it means to join the way or something similar but I could be way off.
Any help would be greatly appreciate, thank you.
