Dormitory announcement from Kyoto University

hi all,

I'm heading for kyodai. My professor have applied dormitory application in my place. Due to limited capacity of the dorm, not all applicants are to be granted to live in the dorm.

Up to now, I still haven't received notification regarding my application status. Does anyone heading to Kyodai in this forum got any news?:?

please share. thanks 🙂

Hey.. i've some question

What do you have to bring in for MEXT-application ?

I ask, because on the Embassy-homepage of my Country the information is very old, refering on a different type of how you finish your studies.

In Austria the bachelor-master-studies are somehow new, and the information is still for the old Magister-System.

So please tell me, bachelors, what do you have to bring in?

3rd year in a row, fail. This time from domestic selection. Just got the phone call.

Congratulations those who got in.

Oh my god... you're KIDDING ME!!! What the #$%#, does Japan hate you or something? Did you flip off the emperor some day? That's just absolutely insane.... This is just stupid. I'm so sorry you have to put up with this crap.

Hi Girls/Guys,
a newbie here, just hoping some current students who may share their experience with schooling in japan
i) how has education been and what are the teaching styles/approach?
ii) how are you preparing (or is school assisting you) for employment?
iii) if you could change something back during your application, what would it be? many thanks.... :)
looking fwd to tis years app...

Hello everyone, I'm hoping to get some advice from you all.

Right now I'm trying to complete the portion of the application that asks you what your present field of study is, your research theme once you arrive to Japan and the study program in Japan. I'm fine with the first two but, I'm struggling with the study program section. What exactly are they looking for? Do they want me to list the classes I want to take? Or just the thing I want to study?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Ooo, no, they want more than that. I saw someone get rejected because he didn't actually give them a research plan, he just listed the programs that he was interested in taking.

They're actually looking for a project that you want to research. Since you're going to be a research student, and then a master's or doctorate student, you're going to have to come up with a question and see it through to the end. That's what they're looking for. There's a lot of debate as to how much detail they're looking for: I was one of the people who wrote a bit more, others wrote less. But they definitely want more than just classes.

Well, I dropped off all of the necessary paperwork at the local Fedex this afternoon so that it will be delivered by tomorrow morning. Here's hoping I at least get chosen for an interview.

Hi guys,
i could really use some help with the application!
I thought i had sussed it all out at this point, but upon reading this forum i feel like i have have misred some of the guidelines. I also am finding this difficult as our tertiary schooling system in Australia is vastly different from this. It is much more linear.

I am a graduate of Architectural Design in Sydney. I was going to apply for the Monbushu scholarship to commence my Masters Degree in Japan.
in particular, i was hoping to take advantage of some connections in the architecture department in Tokyo and specialism in Architecture and Urbanism. My goal was fairly specific, but with this new information, I need to revise my strategy, and quickly.

The feeling im getting off these forums is that you have to be sent as a research student first, and then can do your masters.

1. If that is true, do i amend my application to eventually do my masters degree and be sent as a Research Student first-

or

2. Do i amend my application to be just a Research Student?

3. And as a research student would you do completely individual research or are you taking classes?

Im finding the application very vague in terms of what is and isnt allowable, and the definitions are getting murkier and murkier to me.

Any help would be great, please let me know if you need me to expand on anything.
Cheers!
Andi

Cool - another architect! I'm also applying for the MEXT scholarship for a masters degree in architecture/urban planning at University of Tokyo and Tokyo Institute of Technology with a focus on conditions of hyperdensity.
1. You do not need to be a research student first in order to get your masters. Do you speak Japanese? If not, you'll want to apply to the English programs and the application information (including contacting professors, research topics) is clearly written out on their websites. The architecture program @ Uni of Tokyo must be applied via embassy recommendation in order to get a scholarship, at Tokyo Insti Tech you can apply via either that or university recommendation, in which case the deadline isn't until November.
2. see above :)
3. The masters program, from what I understand, has core classes that everyone has to take and many people try to get them done in the first year in order to dedicate the second year to an independent masters thesis, which is similar to the US system and I'd imagine they have like a "thesis" course where you meet up w/ other masters students and have crits during this time. However, the Japanese masters program is also quite different then my country in that in incorporates a simultaneous internship sort of program tied in w/ prof's work (at least at TI tech)... in any case the course plans are also presented on each program's course website! I've also found that a good resource in the school blog on archinect - click on school blog project, asia, then tokyo tech.
well.... feel free to send me another question regarding the process! I'm working on my research proposal and submitting for Uni recommendation, as I was out of the country during the time of embassy interviews. Good luck!

International Relations

Hey everyone!

I am originally from Serbia and I will apply for MEXT Postgraduate Scholarship next month. I am interested in International Relations program at Ritsumeikan Univeristy.

Has anyone tried to get a scholarship for international relations programs?

PhD

Hello there!

I read a lot in this forum, though not all of it as its simply too much...

It is new to me to read that you cannot just find a prof who supervises your PhD thesis.
I hope the information that in case I get chosen I'd have to go to Japan, pay it myself and sit entrance examinations is simply not applicable or true. Did anyone get a PhD scholarship without doing so?

Well, I still need to wait 2 weeks to get informed if I'm invited for interview and the English test...
For your information: I just started writing my masters thesis about 'Contemporary Architecture in Alpine Tourism' (I'm studying tourism management in Austria). And sent a 2 pages PhD research proposal on a topic wich would follow up on this with a focus on Japan. As I don't know any Japanese yet I listed Universities offering PhD courses in English.

So my plan is to study in English and use the 6 months Japanese course for daily life.
Hope this works out but I would be a little bit nervous as Austria is pretty far away from Japan and spending 3 years there seems like a huuuuge challenge to me. Anyone from Europe got some experiences on how it is to really live there and not just get there for a 2 weeks vacation?

But as long as I don't get shortlisted and accepted I shouldn't think about such things as it only will make me feel bad in case I don't get the scholarship...

Thanks for your answers already!

I must admit, the whole program/application seems so vague and misguided! Possibility due to translation issues?

Either way, just under 2 weeks till deadline! I think i'm going to send it a few days early, just to make sure it arrives all safe and sound.

Hey!

Well, things changed a bit from my last post. A professor from Hiroshima University is willing to be my supervisor so if I get the scholarship I'll study there from next year.

The exam is on this friday, and I hope everything goes well. I've heard that Japanese language test can be quite difficult and I am reading as much as I can.

Are you studying in Japan now?

xxfury2xx,

in your reply looks like you probably submitted your "first part" documents, field of study, research theme, and study program in Japan. can you give us a little bit more details or how did you fill out this very important topics?

I am kind of stuck and how I will start answering it, so I wanted to ask you because you probably already finished the process and got accepted.

What exactly are they looking for on those three questions. I am an IT consultant and the area I work at is related 100% to technology so I have already the project in mind that involves latest technologies.

Please let me know anyone! I have to submit all the papers this next Monday June 14th =(

Thank you in advance,

ありがとうございます!!!

Hello All. I am sorry I did not introduce myself, I am applying for the monbukagakusho grant 2011. I already been in Japan for vacation in two occasions, I love it everything about it, culture, respect, politeness, work ethic, fun, etc...

Thank you so very much to all for helping posting questions where people like me (newbies) can benefit.

I have a few questions for the forum:

1. If I am originally from Venezuela but became US citizen (after 7 years in US) do I need to take the English test?

2. any tips about what they are looking for on the question:

- Present field of study

- Your research theme after arrival in Japan

- Study Program in Japan

I look forward to hearing for anyone one anything.

Sincerely,

@jairu: Look at Lars Martinsons guide - http :// larsmartinson . com / research-proposal/ (remove spaces). Although, in Field of Study section I've written my major subjects at university. As far as I know, providing time-schedule for your research is a good idea. Good luck.

Asanoki!!! great help! thank you so very much! I am writing about my "field of study" right now and I feel that is just fair to do what Larry Martinsons did, posted what he did and also describe the whole process and experience! You will be mentioned in the future blog!!!! ほんとうにありがとうございます!

You are awesome!

窶堋イ窶堙溪?堙ア窶堋?窶堋ウ窶堋「ツ!

So when did you apply? Where in the us? My last day to apply is today. How long and in what way do they let you know if you have been selected to the test and interview part of the process?

Just prepare better for next years from now contact other applicants for suggestions check my previous message they sent me to Martinson's blog very helpful.

窶堋ェ窶堙ア窶堙寂?堙??堙懌?堋キ窶堋ュ窶堋セ窶堋ウ窶堋「ツ!

I applied at the embassy in Miami, FL. The application deadline was May 21.

It took them about 2 weeks to contact me about whether or not I made it to the interview and testing stage. They sent me a cut and paste generic e-mail letting me know that I was denied.

Also, it's not possible for me to better prepare. They won't tell me (or anyone else) why they were or weren't selected. I'm not a psychic or a mind reader, so I have no idea what I can do better next time, which is pretty frustrating.
