The consulate has just called me. They said that I passed the secondary screening, but that this itself is no guarantee of my scholarship, as the MEXT still needs to contacts the University and assess whether they are still interested in having me, as well as confirm budget issues. Supposedly, I'll have a definite answer by February only, but I'm almost there.
Does anyone have any information on this? I'm waiting for the university to contact me, specially in order to begin dormitory reservation procedures, but I'm really anxious, tbh.
This thread is moving fast lolI just received a message from my professor saying that he received an official letter from MEXT saying that I was assigned to his Laboratory at The University of Tokyo.

Me too I received an email from my embassy informing me that I have just passed the second screening.

Congratulations to you too! I don't think there would be any reason for the scholarship not to be given to you at this point... I mean... maybe if the university disappeared from earth... but otherwise I would say you can start packing

I've been following this thread for a while but I didn't register until now.
I'm also a potential MEXT student and I received news from the embassy yesterday telling me that I have successfully passed the second screening but the scholarship is not guaranteed yet. They said I will receive news about the scholarship in the next 3 months. At the earliest - end of December. So there's a lot more waiting ahead.
I see that some people here have been contacted by their professors already. I only received news from the embassy so far. :/
Congratulations!!Hello everyone! I too wanted to inform everyone I got confirmation from my embassy (they told me the university is not decided yet, but I will find out sometime in january. I'm so worried,haha).
I'm guessing not all embassies received the news at the same time (and anyway, perhaps they might not bother contacting people on friday, although mine did). So dont stress out too much!

I was told that I have passed the secondary screening. However, there is one more screening for the final decision, and currently MEXT is deciding over the university at which I am going to study. I am trying so hard to wait patiently. I obtained three LoAs from Kyoto, Keio and Osaka University. I do hope to start this journey by April 2017.
Does anyone have any information as to what are the chances to fail the scholarship after all?

As far as I know, you have pretty much received the scholarship if you have passed the secondary screening!
