For those staying to Tokyo area, I think this should not be a problem. Although it only takes 2 hours for me to travel from Kyoto to Tokyo by shinkansen, i don't know...... maybe i feel insecured and have no idea about the place there for the time being. Any idea about the Malaysian Embassy there?

Menrui, I got that email as one of their replies to my enquiries.
Internet cafe meaning we have to sleep in front of the PC / keyboard? =p
Gosh.... Though i have a fair share of such experience (in front of my own comp at home) - not very pleasant to my back.

It is considerably thick to me, by comparing to most of what we receive throughout that one year. The stuff we receive usually lack complete info and we have to discuss/call to get more details. So having a 107 handbook (2 pages in 1, both side printed) and all spelled out in detail. It's a big jump. Hehe. Rather spoilt for details.

And oh my GOd, i was so excited about the package that i got almost everything done (pledge, reply slip and Visa) at the embassy that very day that i didn't even finish reading that Letter! Haha
I totally missed out that acknowledgement letter part!!

I wasn't trying to insult in my previous posts. ☝But when you told us that the handbook is thick, personally, I got freaked out. Just imagine how many days I will have to sit there reading the handbook. Luckily, I managed to skim through it once.
By the way, am I missing a few pages? I just got page 100 as my last page.
The some of the internet cafes there are very cosy, and some are even completed with shower (not every cubicle, but shared).

I have no idea about the Malaysian Embassy in Shibuya. But I just know that Shibuya is a very nice town, where people are going there to shop (for high-end and pricy things). Two hours by Shinkansen is very far... (Imagine going from North of the Peninsular of Malaysia to the South in two hours)

I was told by Ms Yin that eventhough our stipends are going to be reduced, it should be sufficient for us over there. Perhaps we just can't save much on travelling... Anyway, that USD 1500 is for us to go through that period of MEXT depositing our stipends. She said the first stipends deposit (for April intake) should be at the last week of April. But just bring enough money, just in case it is delayed. I read it in the handbook that April is the start of a new fiscal year, so there might be some delays to that.

Do you think that there is a chance for some of us to meet at the air port?!
If we arrive at the same day and at about the same hour we can meet up and go to the dormitory, or at least to the Kyoto station, together.

Nope, paying my own way. It's gonna eat all my savings from the last 8 years, but I'm going, after 4 years of trying.
As it turns out, my problems with immigration may or may not have played a role in my being turned down for the scholarship twice in a row. All I know is that it took a lot of work to get me through this time.
It seems that Japanese immigration takes a very dim view of anyone who is "suspicious". Unfortunately, being "suspicious" includes the following:
1) Anyone who attempts to apply to a language school for advanced language study after studying in Japan before, even if the stated purpose of such study is in preparation for graduate school (this happened to me the first time).
2) A person who has been rejected for a visa before (see #1)
I'll say right now, while I'm a little resentful of the scholarship application process, and how it's treated me, and feel a little bitter of those who received it without trouble, but I'm very happy right now to finally be going, 4 years later.
I'm not really one to hold a grudge anyway.

Yeah I was thinking of doing that... but the forum names and the facebook names don't match, so it would be kind of confusing.
