MEXT Scholarship 2016 (Research)

Congratulations!

Where are you located?

Thanks good luck to you too. I hope that all of us get accepted and fly to Japan

Hey everyone on this thread-- good luck with getting your results for the scholarship!!

tbh, I dunno if this is the right place to ask this seeing as I'm aiming to apply for a scholarship starting 2017 but I've read through most of this thread and still have a crapload of questions about the application process... which doesn't start until April. Right now I live out of a backpack and country-hop so I don't have a lot of spare time, won't be returning home until early June next year and should probably get started on being organized right away...

Basically my questions are:

1) is there an option when you apply whether to pick april departure or october departure?

2) as a 'research student' you're not really aiming for an MA unless you pass the university entrance exams, right? So if you stay six months, pass your entrance exam, does MEXT then extend the time of your scholarship for you to earn your masters? So if you start in October, take your exam in April and pass, then technically you're being funded for two and a half years?

3) The uni I really wanna attend says 'no need to contact professors' but doesn't necessarily say don't, haha... I've heard so many mixed reports on contacting professors you're interested in advising you, so what have all you successful people done?

I'm sooo sorry if this isn't the place to put these questions (... or if they've been answered before!!) Take care and good luck all of you!!

Hi! I think I can answer your questions
1) Yes, there is, but if you choose the October departure, you don't get the first 6 months of Japanese Language classes that they give. At least that's what I've been told at my city's consulate.
2) That's right. You just have to let MEXT know that you passed your Masters entrance exam and they can extend the scholarship
3) I contacted the professor I could probably be interested in working with like a year before since I was studying as an exchange student in Japan at the time. At the end, I didn't end up deciding in working with him but he was the one who introduced me to the professor I will probably work with. So, in other words, I contacted my professor several months before I started the MEXT procedure. However, I think what @TranSenz makes a lot of sense - it depends when you contact them and how.

I hope this helps

1. yes
2. yes
3. definitely do it

regarding #2 and @sarzamora 's comment above - you can still get the language training in many cases. I'd like to think this all depends on your level, and the courses they are offering in what Japan's SECOND semester of the academic year (in October).

Hey guys! @ven0m @Nikosil @mirzawaqar09 Congratulations for passing the second screening!!

I still haven't received any notifications from the Embassy of Japan nor any of my prospective tutors, so I will have to keep on waiting for any notice, hopefully they'll tell me something before the year ends hahaha

Man the waiting is killing me ! any news from Syria or Jordan Palestine ???

Semi-on topic question: Does the Japanese government have an embassy to Palestine? Is your local scholarship contest for the three regions you mentioned? I would imagine a consulate/embassy in Amman - does it manage diplomatic relations to Syria and Palestine? As you might know, these sorts of matters are highly political (and thus very interesting to me).

Good luck mate!

The results of the second screening have been released from the embassy in London.

I passed thankfully

I hope everybody hears soon.

I'm surprised people are getting results already, the embassy here in New Zealand told us to expect them in early January.

They told me the same, even the official timeline stated that the results will be announced in late January. I'm sure you'll get the necessary info by the end of the year.

ファイト!

@shinogi As I understand at early january are announced final confirmation/placement results, now they're releasing the second screening results.

Thanks mate I really need it. and for your question I think there is an office in Jordan for people from Syria and Palestine. but I do not know the location. good luck to you too @hojoojoh
good luck to all of you applying this year and I hope all pass

Congrats! You are so lucky to have heard from the embassy this early!

Happy Christmas

Based on Japan Embassy in Malaysia, they will only announce the result in January. However, I am getting anxious as some people get their result so early. Hopefully, everyone will get the good news ASAP.

By the way, is there anybody applied for university in Nagoya?

Hello friend ... I have applied in Nagoya Institute of Technology (NITECH) .

I am going for PHD in Electrical Engineering ... How was the life in Nagoya (expenses for two persons ?) and the University itself ? if i may ask .

Hey people I would like to share my updates with you.

Yesterday I got an e-mail from my tutor from Nagoya University (second choice, first was KEIO, private) telling me that the government had contacted the university to confirm my future enrollment in Nagoya University! I am so happy to know that everything seems to be going on fine even though there's no final or definite confirmation that I am going to Nagoya University hehehe. I believe that the Embassy of Japan will only inform the final and definite results to applicants here, so I'm going to have to wait until January to get the final confirmation anyway.

Based on what happened yesterday I will be going to Nagoya if everything goes on fine from now on .

Anyone else going to Nagoya University?

I

am going to hokkaido too.
I have got an email from my supervisor today.

My first choice supervisor is very busy and although we have exchanged many emails, I doubt he will reach out to me first (if mecessary).

I wish I could just bump into him in the halls, or something. Haha

Congrats to you both!
