Hi guys,
apparently they've started sending out more information today as I've also received information that I've been accepted as a recepient of the MEXT Research scholarship for next year. According to the Japanese embassy in my country, the final confirmation (which university we'll be allocated to) will be emailed to us until the end of this year.
I've selected the following three universities as my preferred destinations:
1.) Kyoto university
2.) Osaka university
3.) Kobe university

I am getting more anxious as the days go by. Hoping to receive some reply soon to put an end to this miserable waiting period.

From what i know, 99% of the people that have one or more letter of acceptance pass the second screening!

Hey everyone on this thread-- good luck with getting your results for the scholarship!!
tbh, I dunno if this is the right place to ask this seeing as I'm aiming to apply for a scholarship starting 2017 but I've read through most of this thread and still have a crapload of questions about the application process... which doesn't start until April. Right now I live out of a backpack and country-hop so I don't have a lot of spare time, won't be returning home until early June next year and should probably get started on being organized right away...
Basically my questions are:
1) is there an option when you apply whether to pick april departure or october departure?
2) as a 'research student' you're not really aiming for an MA unless you pass the university entrance exams, right? So if you stay six months, pass your entrance exam, does MEXT then extend the time of your scholarship for you to earn your masters? So if you start in October, take your exam in April and pass, then technically you're being funded for two and a half years?
3) The uni I really wanna attend says 'no need to contact professors' but doesn't necessarily say don't, haha... I've heard so many mixed reports on contacting professors you're interested in advising you, so what have all you successful people done?

A few people have mentioned contacting the professors directly as a good course of action, so I should clarify what I meant. Contacting professors directly is great if you can swing it. Especially in he way that AmerikaJin5 did: contacting them regarding interest in their research long before you begin the MEXT application process. That's good sense networking and it's going to give you a huge leg up when you apply. I absolutely recommend that as a long-term strategy.
What I meant was that contacting professors directly when you need your paperwork processed in a hurry is not a good idea. This time of year is final exams for the spring semester and summer break, so they're probably going to be busy and distracted. Not all professors are going to know what to do with a MEXT application, but all administrative offices will, so the admin office is the safer choice, IMO.

Thanks mate I really need it. and for your question I think there is an office in Jordan for people from Syria and Palestine. but I do not know the location. good luck to you too @hojoojohSemi-on topic question: Does the Japanese government have an embassy to Palestine? Is your local scholarship contest for the three regions you mentioned? I would imagine a consulate/embassy in Amman - does it manage diplomatic relations to Syria and Palestine? As you might know, these sorts of matters are highly political (and thus very interesting to me).

Hey people I would like to share my updates with you.
Yesterday I got an e-mail from my tutor from Nagoya University (second choice, first was KEIO, private) telling me that the government had contacted the university to confirm my future enrollment in Nagoya University! I am so happy to know that everything seems to be going on fine even though there's no final or definite confirmation that I am going to Nagoya University hehehe. I believe that the Embassy of Japan will only inform the final and definite results to applicants here, so I'm going to have to wait until January to get the final confirmation anyway.
Based on what happened yesterday I will be going to Nagoya if everything goes on fine from now on.
Anyone else going to Nagoya University?
